Good quality wheelset at a reasonable price

- Martin, 1 August, 2018

I've used Mavic wheels over many years, well designed, well built and run true and free. I have no hesitation to recommend these.

Took the advise from other reviews to complement these with Swissstop pads as cheap pads eat into the rims.

- Andy, 9 February, 2018

I search the internet for the best deals for wheelsets and always arrive back at Mantel. I know the quality of the Mavic Aksiums but it’s the service from Mantel that keeps me coming back time and time again. Long may it continue!

Fully reliable wheelset

- Robert, 24 November, 2016

For the money, this wheelset is reliable and bomb-proof. My previous set lasted for years without the need to service or replace parts. They were out through 5 years' winter training. Excellent

Good, but front wheel "out of true"

- Neil, 20 November, 2016

Everything seems great about these wheels apart from the fact that my front wheel was 'out of true' when it arrived. They weren't seriously bad, but bad enough to be able to spot. I've put them true now, so all good.

At this price point, you cerntainly get a lot of bang for your buck. Wheels look great and are well-built. Second pair I've had as they survive the good old British potholes and wet weather really well.

Great wheels, great price

- Chris, 22 August, 2016

I have these wheels on another of my road bikes, and when the bearings got a bit rumbly on my Jamis, I decided to go for them again. I did my first ride on them yesterday and they preformed faultlessly, just as expected. The price from mantel was the best I could find, and having ordered on a Monday evening, was pleasantly surprised when they arrived on the Wednesday morning. many thanks, keep up the good work!

Very good, reasonably priced upgrade

This is a purchase I am more than happy with and represents true value for money.

- Robert, 21 August, 2016

I was looking for an inexpensive pair of trainning wheels and was advised by a friend to consider the Mavic Askium wheels. I looked at them on the Mantel site where they are very competitively priced and decided to give the a try. When I received them I was more than pleasantly surprised by the super quality and design of the wheels. Their appearance is of a much more expensive wheel and the ride confirms this. One of the best purchases I have made.

Pros & Cons

Excellent value for money.
Smooth ride.
Lower end of the Mavic range.

Wheelie good upgrade

- Ian, 7 August, 2016

Bought these to replace my Fulcrum Racing 5s which had worn rims, can't sat that the Mavics feel any lighter or heavier. The hub makes a really pleasant noise when freewheeling, not too loud & not too quiet, just the way I like them. I bought the 25mm version & they are a lot easier to put the tyre on than the Fulcrums which were so so difficult to get the tyre on or off. The graphics on the Mavics are pleasing & they have so far remained true even after hitting several pot holes. Rim tape was already installed & it came with quick release skewers so excellent value. All in all a very good purchase.

Pros & Cons

easy tyre installation
nice graphics
nice sounding freehub
Rim tape & skewers included

Excellent starter/winter/training wheelset

- Peter, 28 January, 2016

The Mavic Aksiums are a good cheap pair of wheels for winter riding or training. With an assortment of retailers wanting to chip away segments of the market the price of this wheelset has become very competitive in recent times, somewhat putting the once popular Fulcrum 7s a bit further back the list of go-to knockabout wheels. The wheelset is a decent weight for its intended use and price, coming in at around 1.8kg. The braking surface is also robust and it took me several hundred miles in wet, gritty weather to even see a mark in the metal. The bearings are also another big plus for this wheelset; taking the British winter weather in its stride. The same cannot be said for similar priced wheelsets. Flex is also a minimum on the Aksiums, with no noticeable brake rub when sprinting or throwing the bike around. The decals are simple and understated, a little bit against the grain when it comes to mainstream bike branding nowadays. Whilst this wheelset, in my opinion, is the best for the money for the intended use, it does have one big draw back, and that is the mixture of low spoke count coupled with straight-pull spokes. If a spoke breaks the wheels are throw out of true to a fairly large degree, and the lack of an elbow at the bottom of the spoke means that retrueing it is a pain. Other than that, this wheelset is a joy to use and I would recommend it.

Pros & Cons
