Description

Description

The Northwave Celsius XC GTX winter mountain bike shoe is the ideal cycling shoe to use at temperatures around freezing point. Because the shoe is waterproof, you have optimal protection in cold and wet conditions.

Warm, wind and waterproof thanks to the Pique Gore-Tex membrane
This Northwave winter mountain bike shoe has been given the Pique Gore-Tex membrane, which is Northwave's middle membrane in terms of warmth. It therefore provides sufficient heat at temperatures around the freezing point. Like the other shoes, this membrane is completely wind and waterproof so that cold wind and rain cannot penetrate the shoe.

Jaws carbon injected sole for stiffness and comfort
The Northwave Celsius XC GTX features a Jaws Carbon Reinforced sole with a stiffness index of 8 out of 12. This sole is made of nylon that has been injected with carbon. This makes the sole stiff without sacrificing comfort. In addition, the sole has a rubber outsole for good grip on any surface.

Ultra light XFrame in combination with an SLW2 closure for adjusting the shoe
On top of the shoe you will find the XFrame that is not only light, but also ensures that you can adjust the shoe very precisely. The top of the shoe is designed in such a way that you can close it nicely around the foot with the easy-to-adjust SLW2 closure system and tighten and loosen it click by click. The wire of the closure system is crossed so that it fits neatly around the foot without causing pinches.

EasyFit Climaflex sock for comfort and warmth
In order to make the shoe comfortable, but to give you optimal protection against cold and rain, the shoe is equipped with a raised sock. This sock is made from 1 loop for an optimal fit and minimal seams. In addition, donning and doffing has also been improved compared to its predecessor due to the New Gaiter Shape and handy loops at the top. The sock fits nicely around the ankle and ensures that heat stays inside while rain can't get in. Make sure that you wear the pants over the sock so that water does not seep in through the pants.

4-layer insole for excellent insulating capacity
To keep your feet as warm as possible in the winter, the insole consists of three different materials that are built up in four layers. These layers consist of E.V.A + Aluminum + E.V.A. + coat and ensure that heat remains well insulated within the shoe, while at the same time feeling comfortable.

Do you want to keep cycling in the winter, but avoid extremely cold days? Then the Northwave Celsius XC GTX winter shoe for the mountain bike is enough to keep your feet nice and warm and dry!

User tips

Detailed explanation of sizing in mm
In order to help you, as best we can, to choose the right size shoe we have measured all the shoes ourselves. All that's left for you to do is measure your own foot length, and we'll tell you which shoe size per brand suits you best. Does your foot length in mm not appear on the relevant product's page? Then that particular shoe is not available in a size that suits your foot length.

You can easily measure your foot length using an A4 sheet of paper, placed on the floor against a wall. Stand with one foot on the piece of paper, with your heel against the wall. Draw a line above your big toe (or above the index toe if that is longer). Now mark your other foot on the paper in the same way. Measure both - the measurement of your longest foot is your foot length in mm's! Please note: some manufacturers have their own measuring system, and as a result what appears on the shoebox can deviate from what we have measured.

What shoe size you need can differ per brand. This is because certain brands wear larger or smaller. To help you get the perfect fit, we've also classified the shoes as narrow, average, or wide fit. Read all about it in our blog!

Not waterproof and impossible to get dry after a wet trip

- Koen 1 January 2022

The shoe is sold as waterproof. However, my feet are completely soaked from the rain after an hour of cycling in dry weather over wet roads. As a result, my feet once again become icy cold. I store the shoes indoors, in a heated storage room; even after a week, the shoes and 'sock' are still completely soaked from the inside.

Pros & Cons

Attractive looks
Warm in dry weather
Absolutely not waterproof
Drying time > 7 days
Sand from mountain biking blocks the BOA closure

Good value for money

- Gianni 29 December 2021

Fast delivery of a very good product. I definitely recommend the Northwave Celsius for cold, wet rides. It hasn't been freezing cold yet though (below 0 degrees). At the top, the "sock" does not fit well. You can't tighten or tighten it either. You can possibly pull your long trousers over it, but moving around a lot makes the trousers shoot up anyway. Definitely take one size bigger than your shoe size. Don't forget to order SPD plates.
