Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- This chain offers pretty sweet value for money.
- This chain shifts brilliantly.
- The included Quick-Link makes fitting and removing your chain a breeze.
- Because of its thinner coating, this SLX chain is less durable than Shimano's higher end models.

This Shimano SLX/GRX/105 M7100 chain was specially developed for the 12-speed Shimano groupset. It has an excellent price/performance ratio and will serve you well, even in demanding conditions. It is also delivered standard with a Shimano Quick-Link, so that you can easily fit and remove your chain.
Dynamic Chain Engagement+
Shimano's Dynamic Chain Engagement+ is a special gear teeth profile designed for use in single-chainring configurations for XC, enduro and trail riding. It improves chain retention due to extended inner plates, and smoother pedalling even on hilly terrain.
Sil-Tec coating
This special coating from Shimano uses imbedded fluorine particles to reduce friction and improve system performance. The chain will last longer because friction and noise are reduced and mud is shedded more effectively.

You can’t do without it!
- Edgar 23 July 2026
I counted the chain links, shortened it, and it ran smoothly on the bike. It’s running like a dream again. It’s a shame you have to degrease it so thoroughly, though. There really is a nasty layer of grease on it. Even if you don’t use wax, it still attracts dirt.
Pros & Cons
So many links
Why are they wrapped in such a nasty bit of fat?
