Rim Material | Aluminium | |
Rim Width (internal) | 30 mm |
Comfort and grip on technical descents comes from the 30 mm internal rim width, which allows you to mount tyres with more volume, ranging from 2.35 to 3.0 inches. The Black Shield treatment protects the rims against external damage. Also, the wheels feature the UTS tubeless system that makes it very easy to go tubeless with a reduced chance of getting a flat tyre from punctures.
Mavic Care
Mavic Care allows you to extend your warranty period to 3 years by registering your newly purchased wheelset on Mavic's website within 30 days. It also activates the crash replacement option, which gives you up to 40% discount on a comparable product. You are eligible for this option if your wheel can no longer be repaired after a crash or collision.
MyMavic app
You can use the MyMavic app (available from the App Store and Google Play) to receive advice on the correct tyre width and pressure for your rim width and the type of surface on which you'll be riding.
The rim is ready for riding without an inner tube. Rim tape is not required. The UST concept improves traction, control and comfort while reducing inertia and punctures.
Instant Drive 360
The Instant Drive 360 freewheel body system is super light and has a fast engaging ratchet system with only 9 degrees of engagement. A large rubber seal minimises friction and accessibility. An oversized axle and the hardened aluminium freehub save 40 grams.
(SUP) Stronger and smoother rim joint Soudé Usiné Process
After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a stiff and smooth finish.
(QRM) Qualité de Roulements Mavic
Mavic uses only high-quality sealed bearings. In wheels with QRM, double sealed 2RS bearings with low rolling resistance are used.
Some 12 speed cassettes must be mounted onto the 10/11 speed Shimano/SRAM freehub bodies. They are the SRAM NX Eagle PG-1230 cassettes and virtually all other 12-speed MTB cassettes whose smallest cog is an 11. MTB cassettes whose smallest cog is a 10 require a specific freehub body; for Shimano this is a Micro-Spline freehub and for SRAM it is an XD freehub.

Almost perfect
Wheels purchased to replace original WTB Sti30s. The crossmax wheels are much lighter (500g difference between the 2 pairs - weighed). They're also more dynamic and make the bike more agile. When climbing, you get the impression that you're braked less and when descending, you have the impression that you can place the wheels more easily. On the other hand, they feel stiffer, so I'll have to review my suspension settings. The sound of the freewheel is more muted (and therefore more pleasant from my point of view). The spanners are easy to use and spare spokes are supplied. Finally, the fact that you don't have to put any rim tape on the rim makes fitting easier, and there's no need to worry about damaging the rim when fitting or removing tyres. The only downside is a slight haze and jump on the front wheel.

Quality at an attractive price
Rolls well, good grip due to wider rim in mud
Pros & Cons
5 / 5
The best aluminium wheelset in terms of weight.
Only installed so far, but makes a very high-quality impression.

Super wheelset that I can fully recommend.
Lightweight stable wheelset, drive it on my trail hardtail and have no problems with eights or dents during intensive use. Also the spokes have never loosened. I know from other wheels also different. For me, a super compromise of stiffness, weight and price, just compared to carbon. The extra cost of XL S to XL is with the lower weight and the cool milled rim was worth it for me in any case. A very nice detail is that the milling at the valve hole is omitted to get more stability here and also to prevent opposite and an out-of-round run. The decor could be a little more discreet for my taste, but I can simply remove the stickers.
