Brooks B17 Standard

The saddle was delivered to me nicely on time by mantle. On fitting, I found that the rails are 2 mm. narrower than the saddle I had before. And another saddle I have lying around. So the Brooks deviates from the standard size. But if you keep screwing on, the 2 mm is overcome because the rails thus expand. I wonder if that is there intention. Furthermore, I have now ridden about 250km and it is not easy. It is really rock hard. And my seat bones are bothering me a lot. I only ride it for short rides now. If I go further than 30 km, I put the other saddle on. A 10-year-old Bontrager saddle was 25€ at the time. So with me a saddle always lasts a long time. I hope with the short rides to ride the saddle in. But what a lot of effort say.

Everyone gives high reviews mine is really much less. After 250 kilometres the saddle is not going to be better it just gets worse. Settling in / getting used to it will all be fine but it's clearly not for everyone.

The saddle is excellent but it requires a lot of maintenance. The clamping bolt, for example, breaks regularly. You had better like doing chores with such a saddle.

Saddle needs to be ridden in. After some time it fits like a glove. Weak point saddle tensioner nut can break. Bridge also proved a weak point after years.

I’ve had many seats none of which are properly comfortable. Everyone who seems to know says Brooks is the ultimate answer. So far I’m happy as I remain confident of comfort and like owning it.

Allen op een Brooks zadel B17 heb ik geen zadelpijn. Deze heb ik op mijn racefiets, lange afstand fiets en nu ook op mijn ATB-fiets.

Had had this saddle before but it ran out. Really liked that saddle hence I bought a new one. The seat is a little uncomfortable at first but then the saddle molds to your seat very comfortably.

A leather saddle is always fine is not going to boil when it's hot and in winter not freeze like a gel saddle

Beautiful and high-quality saddle. Top quality. Due to the short mounting rail at the bottom, I could not mount it far enough back - to my liking - but it is fine as it is. Also, it is hard and slippery at the beginning, so you feel like you keep sliding off. I mounted the front or tip slightly upwards and it is now stable and more comfortable. You do have to find your sweet spot and then persevere and ride it in. I regularly lubricate my saddle with Brooks Proofide to make the leather a bit more supple and weatherproof. Recommended is to order a can with it. By the way, there is a small bag of Profide with the saddle for the first lubrication. Don't hesitate, just buy it. You will not regret it.

I have been using this brand of saddle for 10 or so years and am satisfied with it. You do need to cycle quite a lot (especially long distances) to really benefit from them.

It takes some time to find the right adjustment, the first rides are already better than the previous saddle but breaking in is definitely necessary. Maybe I should have opted for the variant with notch or soft leather, or maybe not; it will last longer.

If you are prepared to break in a Brooks saddle then you will have comfortable saddle that could last you a lifetime. Brooks handmade saddles mould to your shape. You won't get saddle sore if you have a Brooks. They are a bit pricey but you will not buying another one in few years time. They are a bit on the heavy side but so what because of the difference they make.

Brooks B17 saddle. Great comfy saddle, fitted to my new bike and straight off to ride a 75 mile reliability ride. No issues. Its heavy but thats a small price to pay for 15 hrs Plus in the saddle, which is what this was bought for and actually ridden.

A bit soon to review realistically. But have done around 200 miles so far and it's been great. Can't what till its 2,000 and it's well and truly broke in. This has been comfy from the off but have found I have had to tilt up more than I generally would with a "normal" saddle

I followed the instructions to give the saddle a coating of profide and left it soak in for two days before buffing it wih a soft cloth. The saddle was very comfortable from the first ride ( much better than the gel saddle it replaced). If this "breaks in" and softens over time then it will be amazing!

So when I restored my 30 year old Dawes Road Bike only a Brooks saddle would do. I am delighted with it. It adds the final touch of class to the old bike which is now painted "Bianchi" blue, has a Renalds 531 steel frame and the original "Sun Tour" gears with "down shifters".

80 miles in feeling good, bit heavier than a normal saddle but comfort makes up for it.

The B-17 is easily the most comfortable saddle I have ever had. Considering the leather is hard and takes some breaking in it is already infinitely better that the padded monstrosity that came with my bike and has eliminated the 'chafing issues' I was having before. The saddle is really easy to install - it took just a few minutes. It also looks great. Mantel were awesome too. It came really quickly.

My wife inherited her father's B17 Brooks saddle which he purchased in 1993 and it is still going strong. This saddle will outlast me I am sure and is comfortable straight out of the box. This can only be improved as it moulds to me.

Early days but feels like this is fantastic quality, built to last and will give many years of very comfortable cycling. Should come with more than the 3ml of Proofide treatment or at least the option to add/purchase 30ml-50ml of Proofide which is so important to the breaking in process and ultimate longevity of the saddle

After damaging the saddle lugs on my previous Brooks saddle in a crash,I had no hesitation in replacing it with the same. After a few days wearing it in, it is now comfortable and will give me a lifetime of comfortable use.

Only ever owned stock saddles that came with the bike. This a step up. I noticed that the pressure from sitting on this saddle is more evenly spread across my sit bones. Very well made, somewhat of a luxury item. I think it will last a long time, so worth the money. There is a little bit of maintenance, have to buy and apply proofride. Oh and its looks amazing, even on my hunk o junk bike.

I discovered this seat as a teenager over forty years ago and I have always replaced the standard seat that is supplied with a bicycle with one of these. I have a tandem and two bicycles and they all have this type of saddle. Beats anything I have seen hands down.

Needed a replacement saddle for my old Holdsworth Championship that I have renovated and converted to a single speed. Hummed and Haughed for ages. Was put off the prices on eBay and spotted this on Mantel at not much more than second hand ones were changing hands for. I can say this is the most comfortable saddle I've ever had. The top surface is a bit slippy but I think this is due to newness. I am very happy. If you are a tourer or a commuter and can get a Brooks at this price then go for it!

I have been using brooks saddles for more years than I can remember. Especially good for mountain biking, offers shock absorption, and the smooth finish allows easy movement.

Have had one before. Very pleased with the quality and the comfort over previous saddles n years gone by. Essential to use the proof hide underneath the saddle as well as on top especially on bikes without mudguards as water is the enemy of leather. Delivery was quicker than expected.

This is the same saddle as I had on my bike which was stolen, so I'm sure it will be just perfect. I would give it 10, but for the fact that I know it will take a while for it to "remember" my shape. Always choose Brookes, they look so good and I love their name on the back of the saddle

In some ways I was dreading this saddle arriving as I had heard so many nightmare stories about breaking them in, but in truth the seat was comfy from the start and once the leather has moulded itself to my sit bones it should be super comfy. The delivery was prompt and well packaged.

Just riding it for past 3 weeks, some 250km done. Everyday feels more comfortable. I apply Prooofide as advised, once a week for 1st 4 weeks, then will do every 6mths. But it's a first saddle that gives me pleasure to ride for more then 30km (my weight just below 100kg)

On my new bike, I again chose a Brooks B17. You do have to "cycle in" the saddle for the necessary miles so that it molds to your body. After that, in my opinion, there is no better saddle than this Brooks. If you have a sporty posture, you don't need suspension; you may need it if you cycle a bit straighter. Furthermore, the saddle needs some care and maintenance - I try to keep it dry and grease it occasionally.

Product delivered very quickly by Mantel. A great looking saddle. Seated well from the start but obviously still breaking it in. I cycle to work every day so breaking in is going fast, the saddle is already getting more comfortable.

I haven't had the saddle for very long and still need to get used to it a bit, but the initial hardness is over and I notice that the saddle has already molded itself to me. Beautiful packaging and presentation You can tell that people at Brooks take pride in their products. Nicely finished saddle with included clamping key Would be nice if a jar of Brooks leather grease was also included in the box. However, this is not. At first this saddle is hard and slippery, and it is important to mount it in the correct position to avoid sliding forward. After about 10 rides, comfort already seems to increase. At 1st use already less sweltering feeling than a gel saddle.

I bought my first Brooks saddle 35 years ago (B66). Now the tension screw is broken, so I changed to the B17. The B17 is now slowly adapting to my buttocks and is already very comfortable to ride, I have no concerns that the B17 will achieve the same durability as the B66.
