Stiff, light and attractive (for a price)

- David, 3 April, 2017

If you are sat there wondering whether these bars are good or not, they are. They are stiff, attractive, comfortable and incredibly light (I handed them to a colleague of mine who expected them to be a lot heavier than they are and almost chucked them across the room when he picked them up). For those wondering, they egg shaped tops are comfortable and provide a greater surface area to rest on, particularly once taped, which is not immediately obvious from the pictures. For me, the only thing to consider is whether you are willing to pay the price tag. I have always maintained (and continue to do so notwithstanding this purchase) that carbon cycling components are outrageously priced. Are these bars 'worth' £full price? No, of course they aren't. But are they money well spent? Yes. They are a fit and forget item. They are well made by a reputable brand; they don't flex at all; they are incredibly light and they will last. However, it is difficult to ignore the fact that for a lot less money, you can buy the next tier down without much of a weight gain (I defy anyone who says they can tell the difference between two identical bikes with a 100g weight difference). The performance of these bars is a 10. The price is a 6. I've averaged that to an 8. If you're willing to pay the outrageous price tag, stop thinking and buy these bars. If you're not, you've already made your decision. NB: The manufacturer sizing is from end to end rather than centre to centre. The bars also have a flare to the drops. I am normally a 42cm and a 44cm was a perfect fit for me.
