Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Maxxis Ikon MTB tyres are all-round and ride well on varying surfaces in different conditions.
  • The tall knobs give great grip in corners but also when braking.
  • The Exo Protection shields the sidewalls from sharp rocks.
  • Ideal tyre if you don't like swapping tyres. The Ikon does well on any terrain.
  • TLE (TubeLess Easy), technology makes the tyres easy to make tubeless with 90ml of latex sealant per tyre.
  • The triple MaxxSpeed compound provides plenty of traction, but has slightly higher rolling resistance than a harder compound.
  • Tubeless sealant should generally be topped up every 3-6 months.

Description

Description

The Maxxis Ikon EXO Tubeless Ready is perfect for mountain bikers in need of a seriously lightweight tyre. The supple rubber compound and tread both offer excellent performance under various conditions. As the name suggests, the Ikon will leave the competition for dust.

Technology

3C Triple compound mountain
Maxxis 3C Triple compound mountain technology uses a harder, longer lasting base layer and two progressively softer top layers in order to optimise traction and stability. Maxxis offers three different configurations of our 3C Triple compound mountain technology: Maxx speed, Maxx Terra and Maxx Grip.

Maxx speed
Used primarily in cross country and enduro tires, the two compounds in the outer layer are specially formulated to reduce rolling resistance and optimise tread wear and traction.

EXO Protection
An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountainbike tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.

Tubeless ready
Tubeless tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flattering since there is no tube. Maxxis Tubeless Ready (TR) tires provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tire without the weight penalty.

Tyre has good grip and rolls well.

- Pieter 6 November 2023

Fine bike tyre this went easily on the rim and also stays well pressurised when used tubeless. The rolling resistance of this tyre is also fine, although you do notice that accelerating the tyre requires a bit more power. I opted for the wider version of the tyre, making it a bit heavier. The width of the tyre gives extra comfort and good grip in wetter conditions in the woods.

Pros & Cons

Good grip
Low rolling resistance
Went easily on the rim
Slower acceleration

Nice rolling tyre

- Rob 27 September 2023

A wonderfully rolling tyre (I use this at the back). As I mainly cycle on road, forest trails and gravel (e-Mtb), this tyre is perfect. Lots of grip still and the tyre rolls nicely too. Makes some noise but Maxxis tyres do that anyway. Yellow logo we take for granted.

Pros & Cons

Easy to assemble
Ideal for forest paths
Rolls nicely

Wonderful mtb tire, perfect tread for nice trails.

- Jan Arend 4 July 2023

Fine tire. Works well on the road, in the bid, on dirt roads, on Gelderland mountain bike trails and on rocky ground. A bit less fun in really muddy blubber, or rather fun :-) The tires do make a lot of noise. On asphalt, too often I think there is an off-road vehicle behind me.

Pros & Cons

1.6 bar is fine (tubeless)
grip on almost everything
hard-wearing
low rolling resistance
pops easily into the rim flange, air tight!
make noise
no grip in mud
