Description

Description

Giro has created a new standard with the Giro Vanquish Mips in the field of the fastest aerodynamic helmet with the best cooling and adjustment possibilities! This is partly thanks to Giro's own innovative 'TransformAir design' technology. The air ducts are effectively drained so that you have less resistance from the wind and so you always ride with a good tailwind. The Vanquish is extremely safe because of its In-Mold construction and EPS Liner combination. This combines a strong polycarbonate outer shell with a shock-absorbing foam lining. Thanks to the fusing process, it is possible to create good ventilation systems, so that the Giro helmets are lighter and cooler than traditional helmets. So when you're heading for the very last sprint to the finish line, want to ride a time trial or triathlon as soon as possible, or just stay ahead of your friends during your Sunday ride. The Giro Vanquish Mips is a helmet for you!

Technology

MIPS System
The MIPS System exists out of a low friction interlayer between the EPS lining and padding with an elastic fixation. This allows the helmet to move (slide or rotate) during a crash. It will move around your head to catch the side and rotational forces that could occur during a crash. This in contrast to a helmet without MIPS, whereby the impact is only collected by compressing the EPS lining.

In-Mold Construction
The In-Mold Construction combines a strong polycarbonate outer shell with
shock absorbing helmet padding. Thanks to its fusion process it is possible to sculpt a better ventilation system, so the In-Mold helmets are lighter and cooler than most traditional helmets.

Roc Loc Air Fit
The Giro Roc Loc Air system is specially developed for the Giro Airo helmets. This new system ensures the helmet floats a little bit above your head. As a result there is a good airflow over the top of your head what ensures a good ventilation. Just like the Roc Loc®5 system the helmet can be easily fine-tuned. The tension around the head and the vertical position can be adjusted with one hand. With this Giro sets the new standards for ventilation and comfort.

X-static Padding
Besides the fact they are comfortable The X-static pads ensure anti-microbial properties to keep your helmet longer clean . The pads are machine washable.

Good but some details let it down

- Alexandre Ronald 4 July 2021

This is a good helmet. Comfortable, reasonably light and decent ventilation. Visor is an added value, especially if you wear prescription glasses. The magnetic visor function works well when on but not so good upside down. My visor has cracked for no apparent reason on the nose piece. Could do with a magnetic strap fastener.

Pros & Cons

aesthetics
comfortable
having a visor
not a magnetic strap fastener
removable sweat pads "flaking"
visor functionality

Overall a very good helmet

- Ronnie 24 March 2021

I have done a number of rides and have found the helmet to be pretty good. Over longer rides 4h+ it get's a bit uncomfortable

Pros & Cons

Decent ventilation
Sensible wight
Visor
Magnetic strap holder would be better
Slightly uncomfortable on long rides

Could be a game changer

- John 9 November 2020

Could be, with a few improvements. Chin catch is too fiddly, would be much better if magnetic like the best climbing helmets catering for cold or wet hands. Ratchet is very small and the sizing isn’t correct, my head measurement was in the middle of the range for medium fit but actually it’s right on the lower limit and could do with being a bit tighter. On the plus side it’s liberating not to have to wear glasses.

Poor design, visor magnets malfunction when fastened upside down

- Louis 13 August 2020

I wanted to love this helmet. It looks great, and appears to have a practical design concept that allows you to take off the visor from it's magnetic fixings, and affix it upside down to the top of the helmet to ride without the visor covering your eyes. On delivery of the helmet I was really impressed, the design is slick, and the helmet fitted great (I've a 62.5cm head, so just fitted the Large). I was excited to try it out. On my first ride with the helmet it was an exceptionally hot day in the UK, being 30 degrees. Of course being an aero helmet I was expecting it to not have the best ventilation. Cycling along at speed, it is fine. But when you are going uphill, or stuck in traffic you heat up very quickly. Beads of sweat were starting to run down my face, and I was taking off the visor from it's magnetic fixings to wipe my face and reattaching it in place. I got on with the ride, and thought 1) most days aren't this hot here, and 2) if I'm using this in an event like a 70.3 or 140.6 I'll be well ventilated at pace. So was happy enough. However the next ride I tested the helmet was on another hot day. Midway through the ride I got tired of taking off the visor to cool down, so I stopped at the roadside, took off the visor and attached it upside down to the helmet on it's inbuilt magnetic fixings, as the helmet and visor is designed to do... I set off cycling down the road, and was at some pace, when I had to look over my shoulder to check for rear approaching vehicles when I saw a pot hole approaching. At this point the draft wind caught the visor, pulling it off it's fixings, and visor then fell to the tarmac and skidded down the road. The visor was scratched right across the line of sight, and frustratingly unusable. It could well have been run over by a car, or even caused an accident if I was riding in a group. At this point, after the failure of the product, I lost faith in it. The magnetic fixings on the top of the helmet are not sufficient to hold the visor in place when it's flipped and fixed on top, as it's designed to do. It will not hold the visor in place, and you risk loosing it, as i did, and it getting damaged. The magnets do not align and secure the visor effectively when the visor is flipped upside down. I have returned the helmet and received a refund.
