Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The 22 litre volume allows you to bring everything you need for a long day’s ride or hike: a rain jacket, an extra layer of clothing, tools, food, a hydration bladder – it will all fit inside.
- A rain cover is included as standard, so if it starts to rain your belongings will stay dry.
- Thanks to Cube’s NF Ergonomics system and the padded hip belt, the weight rests on your hips rather than your shoulders, and your back stays well ventilated.
- The bag is cleverly organised with a dedicated tool compartment, a zipped pocket in the main compartment, an upper pocket for small items and a side pocket where you can reach your phone without taking the rucksack off.
- A hydration bladder is not included. This means you can choose how many litres you want to take with you. Cube’s 1.5 and 2 litre hydration bladders fit into the hydration compartment.

With the Cube ATX 22 Backpack, you can take everything you need for a long ride or hike without putting any strain on your back. With a 22-litre capacity, the bag gives you plenty of room for a rain jacket, an extra layer of clothing, tools, food for the ride, and a hydration bladder. It is designed for long MTB, gravel and touring rides where you will be out all day.
Cube developed the NF Ergonomics protection system in-house. Together with the padded hip belt, it distributes the bag's weight across your hips and shoulders, whilst the padded, ventilated back panel keeps you cool. When empty, the rucksack weighs 960 grams.
Everything has its own place. Your tools go in the separate tool compartment, small items in the top pocket or the zipped pocket in the main compartment, and your phone goes in the side pocket so you can reach it without taking the backpack off. On the outside, you can secure your jacket or protective gear using the compression straps. When you don't need your helmet, you can attach it to the helmet holder. And if you need more space, you can attach the Cube Accessory Bag 1 or 2 to the MOLLE system using Velcro. The reflective elements make you more visible in traffic when cycling home at dusk.

NF Ergonomics protection system
Cube developed this system in-house, in collaboration with ergonomic and medical experts. The padded hip belt and the shape of the back panel distribute the weight of the bag, so your shoulders don’t have to bear the full load. The ventilated back panel lets heat escape, ensuring you stay comfortable no matter how long your activity or how high the temperature.
MOLLE system
The MOLLE system involves sturdy loops on the outside of the rucksack to which you can attach items of your own and/or the Cube Accessory Bag 1 or 2 using Velcro. So, you can expand your rucksack if you want to carry more, and leave those additions at home if you want to travel light.
Ideal for:
- Long MTB, gravel and touring rides where you are out all day and need to carry food, clothing and tools.
- Riders who use a hydration bladder – the hydration pack compartment is designed to hold a hydration system.
- Riders who want to be able to take off their protective gear or jacket en route and carry them easily – use the compression straps to tie them securely to the outside of the bag.
Less suitable for:
- Short, fast rides where you only carry a spare inner tube and an energy gel – for such rides, a smaller hydration rucksack or hip pack will be a lighter and more compact option.
Compatible with:
- Cube hydration bladders of 1.5 and 2 litres
- Cube Accessory Bag 1 and Cube Accessory Bag 2, to be attached to the MOLLE system with Velcro
- Carrying a cycling helmet on the helmet holder
- Carrying a jacket or knee and elbow pads under the side compression straps
- A back protector
Not compatible with:
- Carrying on your bike or luggage rack – this is a rucksack that needs to be carried on your body; it does not have any attachments for a luggage rack. If you are looking for a backpack you can also attach to your bike's luggage rack, take a look at our cycling rucksacks with a pannier rack mount.
- The backpack itself is not waterproof, so use the rain cover supplied when it rains.
Not sure? Here’s how to check:
Pile up everything you would take on a long ride: jacket, spare clothes, food, tools, and your hydration pack. If it all fits into a shopping bag of around 20 litres, it will also fit into the ATX 22.
Included as standard:
- Cube Backpack ATX 22 in black
- Rain cover
Not included / still needed or useful:
- Hydration bladder – Cube’s 1.5 and 2 litre hydration bladders fit into the hydration compartment.
- Cube Accessory Bag 1 or 2 for extra space, to be attached to the MOLLE system.
- A back protector.
How to adjust the Cube Backpack ATX 22 in 3 steps:
Adjust the ATX 22 after packing so that it fits perfectly while cycling or hiking.
- Fasten the hip belt: Place the padded hip belt over your hip bones and tighten it until it sits securely.
- Tighten the shoulder straps: Pull them tight until the rucksack lies flat against your back, without the hip belt moving up.
- Tighten the compression straps: This prevents your load from shifting about when you go round a bend or over a kerb.
- Pack heavy items such as your hydration bladder and tools as close to your back as possible to keep the rucksack stable when you are standing from the saddle or cornering.
- Leave the rain cover in its compartment, so you will always have it to hand if the weather changes suddenly.
- Rinse your hydration bladder with lukewarm water after every ride and leave to dry open – this will keep it fresh.
- Put your phone in the side pocket so you can grab it without having to get off the bike or take off your rucksack.
