Very good for the price

Was looking for a smart turbo trainer for ages, but hard to find due to the sudden demand from the lockdown. This was only a bit more than wheel on turbos and I've really been loving using it

Pros

  • Direct drive
  • Smart

Cons

  • Can't fold
  • Only European plug

Good trainer at this price point

For the price this trainer has so far been pretty good. The set up via the Tacx app was straghtforward and calibration was easy. I've been using constantly on Zwift so can't comment on the Tacx training app. You will need to install a cassette which is not really a issue as this trainer does not come with one. Also once set up it does not have folding legs and its heavy which it should be so moving around and storing away when not in use is difficult but if its in a pain cave and won't be moved regularly its fine. I found the flux quiet which is a real bonus for me as its used inside the house and the only real noise is gears changing and chain noise so big thumbs up for that! Ive heard reports of some models having belt issues and having to be returned but fingers crossed its all ok for me at the moment so I'm hoping that's earlier models and Tacx have sorted this for up to date models. Yes there are better options out there with bigger max power and steeper gradients etc but that's going to cost you a few extra hundred quid so you will need to decide if that's really important to you but in all honesty who bangs out over 1500 watts. If using this in the UK you will need a plug adapter as it comes with a European 2 pin and I didn't realise when I ordered mine it came from the Netherlands but all credit to Mantel it arrived in 3 days with detailed tracking and a price which was excellent. The trainer is also stable so when doing hard sprints out of the saddle it doesn't move or rock which gives you confidence to really give it some welly when trying to hit big watts and out of the saddle steep climbs. Talking of watts the flux is very accurate when compared to a quarq power meter with a difference of 1-1.5% in all power ranges so kudos to the flux All in all if you want to spend under £500 for a turbo trainer get good accurate readings and your not going to store it away and having to be constantly moving it I think its a great buy and some £150-£200 less than most models and brands in the mid range of trainers

Pros

  • Good Price
  • Quiet
  • Accurate
  • Easy Connectivity

Cons

  • No Folding Legs
  • 2 Pin Plug
  • Cassette Needed
  • Heavy To Move About

First turbo

Was looking for direct drive lower budget to do suitable indoor training with minimal noise and without tyre wear. This ticks all the boxes although I did have to order a separate through axle (as well as the cassette) which it didn't come with as it didn't fit my ribble disc. Happy so far and hopefully will last a long time

Pros

  • Quiet
  • Sturdy
  • Easy set up

Cons

  • No extra through axle adapters for disc
  • Not easily packable
  • No cassette

Detailed product description

• Shimano body: The Tacx Flux comes with an Shimano body which is suitable for almost any Shimano & SRAM cassette. If you have a SRAM XD or Campagnolo cassette, you can place an optionally available Tacx SRAM XD or Campagnolo body.

• Extremely quiet electromagnetic brake: The Tacx Flux Smart T2900 works with an electromagnetic brake. By placing magnets and electromagnets next to a rotating aluminium disc, the torque generates an alternate magnetic field. This way a contact free, maintenance free brake is realised that is also completely quiet. Thanks to this brake you can set up a resistance that you’d also see on the road or during a climb. The max. gradient of the Tacx Flux is 10% with a maximum power of 1500 watt.

• Plug & play: The Tacx Flux Smart is easy in use. Remove the wheel from your bike and place the chain on the cassette of your trainer. Now you're ready to get on and start pedalling. The stable base of the trainer makes sure that you can stand on the pedals to get that extra power for your sprint. The LED lights on the Tacx Flux Smart indicate if the trainer is plugged into the socket and/or if it’s connected to a computer or phone via Bluetooth Smart or ANT+.

• Virtual speed: When cycling on a virtual platform or in a film it is possible you encounter scenes outside the range of the brake. To allow riders with a motor brake to compete with riders with an electromagnetic brake via Multiplayer, Tacx designed the virtual speed. This measures the power output and translates it into speed, so a fair race is guaranteed. If this speed deviates from the speed of the rear wheel, the virtual speed is displayed in red on screen. Perfect for Zwift races or training rides on TrainerRoad or Kinomap.

• Suitable for thru-axle: Whether the Tacx Flux is suitable for your bike depends on the cassette. For an MTB with thru-axle you need an axle compatible with trainers, available for 135x10 and 142x12 mm. The latter is also available for road bikes with disc brakes.

• Connecting with Windows PC, Apple or Android: Do you have a Tacx Flux Smart and want to get more out of your exercise than is possible with the Tacx apps? There’s an option to connect your trainer to the computer, smartphone or tablet. This way you can train with various apps such as Zwift, Trainerroad or The Sufferfest.

• Tacx Desktop App Premium Account: With Tacx Desktop App Premium you step into the world of virtual cycling environments. This makes indoor training more fun than ever before. You can cycle well-known cycling classics, climbs and other special routes all over the world. Compete against your friends or other participants for the podium positions, cycle the most beautiful routes and receive live data of your performance (cadence, speed and power). Indoor training with the Tacx Desktop App Premium is now more realistic than ever!
