Shimano J04C Metal brake pads are sintered brake pads with cooling fins for Shimano disc brakes.
Sintered brake pads feature a resin compound mixed with metal particles. This compound is very tough and hard-wearing. These brake pads are very resistant against high temperatures, which can occur especially during long descents. This heat resistance is improved further by the cooling fins on the back plate. That's why you can count on good brake performance during long descents with these pads. The drawback of sintered pads is that they'll engage less quickly than organic or semi-metallic pads, and they make more noise when braking.
In all, that means these brake pads are very suitable for long descents, but also for braking often in muddy conditions. This happens mostly on very muddy rides in hilly or mountainous terrain. That makes these pads very suitable for downhill and enduro use, and on long tours in the Alps, for example, as well as for field rides.
Not suitable for all disc brake rotors
These hard brake pads are not suitable for all disc brake rotors. They can only be used with cut rotors, because these are relatively hard. Softer, stamped disc brake rotors are only suitable for soft, organic brake pads. That's because stamped rotors will wear down quickly when used with hard brake pads.

Note:
Manufacturers use different sizes & fits. Make sure the shape of the brake pad in the image corresponds with your current brake pad. Not sure what shape you have? Scroll down to the bottom of this page. There, you’ll find which brake pad is suited for which type of brake.

It's essential that you break in your brake pads after installing them. When the pads have been properly broken in, they will last longer, brake better and squeak less.
