Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- This cleat also allows for entry from above; simply stomp down on the pedal!
- Walking qualities have improved because with the new shape the cleat makes less contact with the ground.
- Compatible with all SPD pedals.
- Clipping out has not become easier; for easy exit, consider Shimano's SM-SH56 cleats.

Entry options
This cleat offers three entry options, the first being the traditional way, where you first clip in the front, then press down on the rear. Secondly, simply "stomp" your foot down on the pedal and clip in. And thirdly, first clip in the rear of the cleat, then the front.
Application
Any rider who often has to clip out and back in can benefit from this cleat. This group includes XC riders who have to get off and back on their bikes due to obstacles or muddy sections, and mountain bikers who do the same on technical sections. Since the cleat also makes for better walking, it is very suitable for riders who walk occasionally.

Not noticably different from older models
SPD continues to be (in my opinion) the best clipless formfactor availble. However the new design is not noticably easier to use than the older one. I can't say for sure, but maybe for beginners it is easier to use. But if youre already used to clipping in as it has always been done, this new model offers no real benefit. Considering the older design is almost half the price, I don't see why anyone should buy this model over the old ones.
