Brand | Ortlieb |
The Ortlieb Thru Axle M6-Connector is a versatile adapter axle specially designed for easy mounting of racks and trailers on bikes without M5/M6 mounts. The high-quality aluminium thru axle is not only durable but also ensures safe and secure mounting.
Technical specifications
This adapter replaces existing thru axles up to 180 mm and can be easily adjusted with the included spacers. The integrated M6 thread on both ends allows you to securely attach your Ortlieb Quick Rack luggage carrier, for example. The set is compatible with 12 mm thru axles and offers an adjustable length from 165 mm to 180 mm.
Important to know
Take into account the specific thread length and thread pitch, as these vary by bike frame. Shorter axle lengths are also compatible, as long as the axle can be screwed through the frame.

Thread increments and their differences
Ortlieb offers thru axles with three different thread increments. Read below how they differ and which version you can use. If in doubt, look up the necessary data of your frame or measure the thread of your current thru axle.
1.0 mm (small)
• Intended for: road bikes and some gravel bikes
• Pros: very secure, vibration-resistant attachment
• Cons: requires more revolutions to tighten
1.5 mm (medium)
• Intended for: gravel bikes and endurance bikes
• Pros: good balance between sturdiness and easy mounting
• Cons: slightly less vibration-resistant than 1.0 mm
1.75 mm (large)
• Intended for: mountain bikes and e-bikes
• Pros: easy to mount, even if the bike is dirty or muddy
• Cons: secures less tightly than the small and medium sizes
How to measure thread rise:
• Thread gauge: the most accurate method
• Slide gauge: measure the distance between two adjacent threads
• Compare: put your thru axle next to an axle whose thread size you already know
Make sure you choose the right size for a perfect fit!

The Quick-Rack system from Ortlieb is truly excellent. This axle kit lets you pass it on as many other bikes as you want, even if they don't have rack mounts. I installed it on a carbon gravel bike and now I can use it for commuting and then get a normal bike in just a few seconds
Pros & Cons
Simple installation
Very practical
Expensive
Removing wheel for repair is more difficult
