Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Maxxis Rekon is an all-round tyre suitable for forest and sand surfaces and highly technical descents over tree roots and rocks.
  • The EXO Protection in the sidewall of the Rekon ensures you are well protected against sharp objects.
  • Thanks to the 3C MaxxSpeed rubber compound, this mountain bike outer tyre is optimised for speed!
  • Tubeless Ready technology makes the tyres easy to make tubeless with 90ml of latex sealant per tyre.
  • The Rekon is less suitable for really muddy conditions.
  • Tubeless sealant should generally be topped up every 3-6 months.

Description

Description

The Rekon is a fast and aggressive mountain bike tyre which really comes into its own in technical cross-country and trail disciplines. The fast and wide stud profile across the tread centre gives you enormous control when accelerating and braking. The L-shaped studs on the tyre's sidewalls enable you to cut through the bends at lightning speed. All in all, this tyre brings together speed and grip so that you can rise to the challenge of the most technical courses.

Technology

3C MaxxSpeed
The rubber compound of the 3C MaxxSpeed has been optimised in order to keep rolling resistance low and increase durability and traction. This makes this compound ideal for pure speed and acceleration out of corners.

EXO Protection
EXO Protection is a wear-resistant protective layer in the sidewalls of the tyre. This protective layer offers excellent protection against cuts from the sides. Thanks to the densely woven material of this layer, the tyre can be lightweight and extremely flexible so that its performance is not affected.

Tubeless Ready
The Maxxis Rekon 3C MaxxSpeed EXO TR is tubeless ready, that is, it does not require an inner tube. Riding tubeless has many important advantages including lower rolling resistance, more grip, more control and additional comfort.

XC/trail curves king

- Ruud 22 February 2023

I think the Rekon series are pretty much the fastest XC/Trail tires Maxxis has. I tested all of Maxxis' XC/trail tires and stuck with the Rekon MaxxSpeed as a front tire and the Aspen as a rear tire. The Rekon Race does still feel just a bit faster than the Aspen, but the Aspen has just the slightly better grip during climbs. This front tire is ideal for hard cornering, especially on sandy forest trails in the Netherlands. In Limburg, the tire also performs well. Where the tire fails is on wet, muddy or damp clay-like surfaces. The tread is not designed for that. I do not consider this a disadvantage, because the tire was not designed for that. I ride the tire myself on a 27mm rim and it falls very nicely. I wouldn't go below 25mm, the side studs are too far from the center and transition studs and the tire has a dead zone if you steer it sharply (I've noticed this on a 20mm rim). As a rear tire the tire is also top notch, with possibly another rekon in front or more something like a Forekaster or High Roller II for trails.

Pros & Cons

Absolutely for 'aggressive XC'
Cornering grip
Rolls quickly

5 / 5

It just fits on the front wheel.

- Bugs 12 July 2022

For a Maxxis, it was unusually coy when mounting tubeless with only a pump, but in the end it gave way. Fits, holds tight and has a very good grip on dry terrain with little rolling resistance.

Pros & Cons

Fast tyre on the hardtail.
Good grip across country.
Tubeless seal, even without sealant.
