Pros y Contras
Pros y Contras
- Carbon wheelset with a 50 mm rim height and an impressively low weight of 1300 grams!
- With a 31 mm outer rim width and a 23 mm inner rim width, these wheels are perfect to fit today's wide tyres.
- This all-round wheelset performs well in the mountains but is also very efficient at high speeds thanks to extensive testing at the Silverstone Engineering Hub.
- The carbon spokes further reduce weight and optimise power transfer.
- The hubs are machined to 0.02 mm tolerances, ensuring that the ceramic bearings have less resistance and last longer.
- Carbon spokes are slightly more fragile in case of an impact but the set includes four spare spokes!

If you're looking for a top-class upgrade for your road bike at a reasonable price, the Elitewheels Drive 50D II wheelset is an ideal choice. The wheels use carbon spokes, updated ratchet hubs and wider rims, and together weigh less than 1300 grams. All the specifications you would expect from a top-end wheelset, at a price well below that!
Carbon rims
The rim has been greatly improved by innovations in Elitewheels' UNI carbon fibre technology. It is now much wider, with an inner width of 23 mm and an outer width of 31 mm, without compromising on weight. In this way, Elitewheels also follows the recent trend of widening rims to allow for the use of wider tyres on road bikes. While this 31 mm rim is aerodynamically optimised for a 28 or 30 mm tyre, its high inner width also allows for wider tyres to be fitted without any problem. Through extensive aerodynamic testing, Elitewheels has reduced CdA by 2.84% compared to the first generation of Drive wheels. This means you will achieve a higher speed with the same effort. The rim has slightly smaller ETRTO-compliant hooks, combining aerodynamic properties of hookless wheels with the safety of traditional wheels.
Carbon spokes
The Elitewheels Drive 50D II uses flat aerodynamic spokes with a 4.5 mm width. Lab tests have shown that these spokes have 8% more lateral stiffness than regular spokes, increasing overall stiffness in the wheel and making power transfer more efficient.
Kinetic ratchet hub
Elitewheels' new kinetic ratchet hub is an improvement in several ways. The rear hub uses a conical 50-tooth ratchet ring for an extremely low engagement of 7.2 degrees and a larger contact area. A stronger spring minimises chances of skipping or slipping, and an improved waterproof seal increases ingress protection. As we have come to expect from Elitewheels, the hubs are machined to tolerances of 0.02 millimetres, ensuring that the ceramic bearings fall perfectly into the hubs for reduced resistance and improved durability.
