Merino wool with recycled polyester

The body of the Wool Extreme X 2 long-sleeved base layer is made from 81% recycled polyester and 19% wool, and the inserts are made from 72% recycled polyester and 28% wool. This combination gives you the best of both worlds: While the wool provides excellent insulation and remains naturally odour-free, even after a few rides without washing in between, the polyester ensures that moisture is quickly wicked away.

Mulesing-free wool

Craft uses only mulesing-free wool for this base layer, which means you are buying merino wool from sheep on which the painful mulesing procedure has not been carried out.

Mesh panels for ventilation

The undershirt features mesh panels in the areas where you heat up the quickest. This allows warm air to escape as soon as you are working hard, while the rest of the fabric continues to insulate as normal. This helps keep you drier during intervals and climbs.

Ideal for:

• Winter cycling in cold weather – as a base layer under a cycling jacket or thermal top;
• High-intensity training sessions in the cold, including non-bike activities: cross-country skiing, winter running, cold-weather walks or hikes in spring and autumn, etcetera;
• Rides where you alternate between cycling hard and stopping, as this is precisely when the combination of wool and quick-drying polyester really comes into its own;
• Men’s sizes XS to 2XL.

Not suitable for:

• Summer rides or warm spring days – this is a winter layer, not a cooling mesh jersey;
• Relaxed commutes in everyday clothes – when wearing this Extreme base layer under a normal jacket, you will soon get too hot;
• Wind and rain protection – the base layer is not wind- or waterproof and you will always need to wear a jacket over it;
• Female cyclists – this is the men’s fit; for the women's version, go to our women’s long-sleeved base layers.

The fit is tight, so if you are between sizes or want a bit more room, choose the larger size. The easiest solution is simply to try it on: You can order it online and have it delivered free of charge to one of our Superstores in the Netherlands (Arnhem, Den Bosch, Utrecht and Rotterdam), where you can try it on at your leisure. If it doesn’t fit, you simply don't buy it and leave it at the store.

• Wear the base layer directly against your skin, without a cotton T-shirt underneath. Cotton traps sweat, and that is exactly what you don’t want in winter.
• Wash the base layer with a wool detergent and avoid fabric conditioner: This leaves a film on the fibres, which reduces the fabric's moisture-wicking properties. Also, follow the washing instructions on the label inside the garment.
• Leave the base layer to air-dry – do not put it in the tumble dryer because wool fibres shrink and felt when exposed to heat.
• Merino wool is naturally odour-free, so after a short ride you can simply air it out instead of washing it straight away. This reduces wear.
