Awesome component, let down only by fragile paint finish
This is an amazing bit of kit, continuing the excellence of the Ultegra brand within the Shimano range. Excellent shifting performance. The only down-side for me, is the apparent fragility of the coating/finish, which looks _so_ good when you take it out of the box. Unfortunately on my first ride out after fitting, my front mech over-shifted and the brand new (SRAM Red) chain, slipped across the surface of the chainset towards the crank-arm. The resultant scratching to the chainset surface was shocking (see photo), just after one half to a full revolution, until I realised the chain was off. Whilst this is - hopefully - an exceptional mechanical issue, I worry for the longevity of the coating/finish over the typical life of this, otherwise amazing, chainset. Excellent ordering and delivery/service from Mantel! You were recommended to me by a friend and I will certainly be coming back.
