Description
Description
The Rival 22 rear derailleur is equipped with the same technology as its bigger brothers, the Force 22 and the Red 22. The biggest difference is its weight. Not using a carbon cage and using steel bolts and pins in this derailleur brings it weight up to 180 grams.
The Rival 22 rear derailleur uses a Exact Actuation shifting mechanism what makes this derailleur shift on a 1: 1 ratio, every click means movement to another sprocket. The new Aero Glide jockey wheels ensure a muted shifting sound.
There is a short and a WiFli cage available for the Rival 22 series. The short cage can handle cassettes up to 28 teeth, the WiFli cage can handle cassettes up to 32 teeth.

• Suitable for 11 speed• Exact Actuation offers quick, precise shifts

Assembly
Tightening and loosening the gear cableTo loosen and tighten the bolt that attaches the gear cable to the derailleur, you will need a 5 mm Allen key. These can be found here.
Disassembling the chain
Before you can remove the derailleur, you must remove the chain. How to do this you can read here. For this you need a chain rivet tool, which you can find here. Make sure you get the right brand and number of speed.
Use assembly paste to mount
When you mount your new rear derailleur, you should put some assembly paste on the threads of the derailleur pad. You can buy this from here.
Mounting derailleur pulleys
To fit derailleur pulleys you need a 2.5 mm or 3 mm Allen key. A handy Allen key can be found here.
User tips
A crooked derailleur hanger?A common problem is a warped derailleur hanger. This can be caused by the derailleur coming into contact with something hard, for example during a fall. Fortunately, this can be repaired! Find out more here.
Make sure you clean your derailleur pulleys too!
Like the chain, derailleur pulleys get very dirty. This makes for a less enjoyable ride and doesn't help with the durability of your drivetrain. Therefore, when cleaning the chain and / or oiling the chain, it is advisable to also clean the derailleur pulleys. Do this by gently turning the chain while you run a cloth along the derailleur wheel. However, at some point the derailleur wheels will be worn out. Visit our blog to find out when to replace your derailleur pulleys and which ones you need.

As good as Force for half the price and only few more grams
Excellent derailleur. I have just changed my old 10s Force after the right shifter gave up from 6 years of heavy use. I took the opportunity to upgrade to a 11s set. When considering to stick with Force I noticed that the weight difference between Rival and Force is marginal (about 100 grams for shifters and derailleur). This did not justified the price difference taking into account that the mechanics, precision and reliability of both sets is the same. Very happy to save about £200. 100grams will not make any difference on my performance. Very good price offered by Mantel.
