Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Surround Wrapping and the BOA fastener create a perfect fit.
  • The low shaft height and the midsole help to stabilise the foot.
  • The combination of gauze, TPU and imitation leather provides better comfort and ventilation.
  • The carbon-reinforced nylon sole offers a perfect balance between comfort and stiffness.
  • The Velcro fastening on the tip is less effective than the BOA on the top.
  • The sole is not entirely made of carbon, which makes it less stiff than soles made entirely out of carbon.

Description

Description

The Shimano RC500 is a lightweight and high quality men's road bike shoe that takes performance to the next level.
Surround Wrapping and the BOA closure ensure a perfect fit
The upper structure of this road bike shoe is equipped with Surround Wrapping, which reduces the chance of overlapping. Through Surround Wrapping the whole foot is surrounded with a seamless piece of leather. This creates a better fit with fewer gaps between shoes and feet. Thanks to the BOA closure at the top of the instep, the fit can be adjusted perfectly and quickly as desired. Even when cycling, a simple turn of the button is enough to tighten or loosen the shoe.

The low shaft height and midsole stabilize the foot.
To stabilize the foot, the Shimano RC500 is equipped with a low shaft height and a midsole. Not only does this increase the wearing comfort of this racing bike shoe, but it also creates a more effective power transfer on the pedals. In short, your efforts are better converted into speed.

Combined sole and upper construction
This racing bike shoe consists of a combined construction of sole and upper section. This improves the fit, stability, stiffness and weight to your advantage.

Combination of mesh, TPU and artificial leather improves the fit and ventilation.
The upper shoe consists of a combination of mesh, TPU and artificial leather. This combination creates a more comfortable fit and provides better ventilation. Through the special holes a cooling airflow can enter this road bike shoe. The chance of overheated feet is therefore much smaller.

The carbon reinforced nylon sole provides comfort and stiffness.
This racing bike shoe is equipped with a light nylon sole that is reinforced with carbon. Thanks to this reinforcement, the sole is made stiffer, making the transmission of power to the pedals more effective. Of course this effect is even better with a full carbon sole, but this is at the expense of comfort. By reinforcing the nylon sole with carbon, this racing shoe offers a perfect balance between comfort and stiffness.

All these qualities make the Shimano RC500 a high-performance racing bike shoe that will provide you a lot of fun.

Detailed description size in cm
To help you as best we can in choosing the right shoe size, we measured all shoes ourselves. All you have to do now is measure your own foot length and we will indicate which shoe size fits you best per brand. You can easily measure your foot by placing an A4 sheet on the floor against the wall. Stand with your foot on the paper with your heel against the wall. Draw a line next to your big toe (or the toe next to it if it's longer). Mark your other foot on the paper as well and then continue with the largest foot. Now measure this distance and you have your foot length in cm's! Please note: some suppliers have their own measurement system, which means that what is on the shoe box may differ from what we have measured.

The shoe size you need may vary per brand. This is because certain brands have a smaller or larger last. In addition, we have divided the shoes into narrow / medium / wide. Read all about this on our blog!

Well made, comfortable and look good

Upgraded from previous shimano and these are really nice. Light, comfortable and the boa works well. Great fit when done up.

Near perfect cycling shoe

Excellent lightweight shoe with great power transfer due to stiff carbon sole. Very breathable in hot conditions. My only criticism is that they are slightly tricky to get into. They also run small so I recommend going up at least one size. Still probably the best cycling shoe for around £100. Highly recommended!

Pros

  • Breathable
  • Great power transfer
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Run small
  • Tricky to get into

Great shoes - comfortable and ride well so far

The shoes look really nice, and I'm happy with the boa mechanism to tighten on the fly. They feel rigid enough with the Carbon support, and I've had no issues when riding so far.

Pros

  • Carbon supported bottom
  • Good fit based on size chart
  • Look nice
  • Well made

Cons

  • Only one boa for adjustment
