Shimano Ultegra WH-RS500

I bought this set for my commuter bike and I haven’t been this pleased with a purchase for a long time. On delivery, I couldn’t detect any vertical or lateral runout, and all the spokes were equally tensioned. After about 500 km on ‘good’ German country roads, I reckon it’ll stay that way for a while yet. The surface finish on all the parts is also extremely high quality. The wheels come with spoke wrenches, quick-release skewers and the spacer for 10-speed cassettes. The tubeless valves are already fitted and rim tape isn’t needed – so you don’t have to worry about a thing. The freehub is so quiet that you can’t even hear it yourself when riding into a headwind or at high speeds. This does, of course, cost you a bit of speed, but it’s certainly a pleasant feature for many people around you. These wheels are good value for money in the truest sense of the word.

Meets expectations. Good replacement for Mavic Ksyrium wheelset on 12-year-old Koga Kimera. Either new wheels or a new bike.

A perfect product at this price for committed riders. Less experienced cyclists may find that this wheel lacks comfort, but it's definitely a performance-oriented wheel.

The wheels are sturdily made. They look very nice visually. I mounted them with the Schwalbe Pro One Tubeless Easy tyres. That fits well together. The combination is also tight without milk. However, to be on the safe side, I ride them with milk.

This is good value for money

As with all mid to high-end shimano products, quality is a guarantee of success and good performance. On my old 26" mountain bike I used to ride shimano xt wheels and they never let me down, these ultegra road wheels go the same way. What I don't understand is that wheels in this category have such horrible valves at the factory that you have to replace the valves before the first use.
