Description

Description

The Garmin Edge Touring works just like a car GPS-navigation, only with maps and functions specifically designed for use on the bike. Whether you have a specific destination in mind or just a distance you want to ride, with the Edge Touring you will always find your way around. You can even download rides from other Garmin Connect or Garmin Adventure users, or share yours online.

Pre-installed European cycling maps on the Edge Touring make it easy to get from point A to point B and back. Enter an address or search for points of interest and the Edge Touring gives you turn-by-turn directions to your destination(s). You can select modes for road biking, touring, or mountain biking so the Edge Touring can calculate the most appropriate route for this type of activity on paved roads, unpaved roads and/or trails.

With the round-trip mode you can enter a specific distance you'd like to ride, and the Edge Touring will then offer you 3 different options from which you can choose, all of which will eventually take you back to where you started. Finding an appropriate resting point or interesting POI is child's play with the Touring.

• Navigation on the road and off-road with the pre-installed Garmin Cycle Maps of Europe
• Enter a distance and choose from up to three options for a tour
• Plan and download new routes you want to follow
• Relive and share your trips with Garmin Connect ™ or Garmin Adventures
• Useful points for cyclists

Delivery includes

• Edge Touring
• Bicycle mounting bracket with quarter turn mount
• USB cable
• Garmin cycling map on microSD ™ card (pre-loaded on the Edge)
• Quick Start Guide

I bought this as an upgrade from my Garmin Edge 200. I am in my sixties and interested in cycling as often and as far as I can. Power meters, heart rate monitors or cadence sensors are not for me more for the younger over-achievers! I like the map display and the routing prompts, similar as the Edge Touring is to a car satnav. I like the larger screen , the colour map display and the compass function is helpful at times. The Edge Touring is a little outmoded like myself suits my needs.

Pros & Cons

Choice of screen and metrics
Good map functions
Good value
Long battery life

Cost effective bike Sat Nav

- Simon 9 August 2016

We wanted something a bit more hi-tech than trying to print out sections of Google maps for planning our routes. After reading all the reviews we decided on the Garmin Edge Touring as it seems to be based on their expensive models but with a lot of the fripperies stripped out and with maps included. We've used it as a standard Sat Nav by pre-programming routes via the Garmin Connect website. This way we have complete control over where we go and it works very well - clear turn by turn instructions easily visible while riding. We've uploaded ride stats to the laptop which has been an added bonus - for example encouraging us to try and increase our average speed for frequent courses. Highly recommended if you don't want all the competitive training stuff, very good value from Mantel too.

Pros & Cons

Clear turn by turn instructions
Download Ride stats
Maps included
Plan routes with Garmin connect
Can be a bit slow to load a course initially

Perfect for me

- Lars 9 August 2016

It is a good motivation factor to see precise how fast you are cycling. And see how many meters high you "climb". Easy menu system and easy to design the display.

Pros & Cons

Easy menu
Easy mount
Good price
Long battery life
Windows compatible
