Technology
Double-layer construction for optimal performanceIn designing this winter jacket, Castelli decided to create a double layer of fabric to offer you the best possible performance. The outer layer is made of a windproof material to protect you from cold and severe winter winds. In similar jackets with such an outer windproof layer, you often see a decrease in breathability. And so Castelli has added a second layer! This inner layer has a snug fit around your body, provides good insulation and keeps your body comfortably warm. The wind is blocked from the outside, but the jacket can be zipped open so that any excess heat can escape via the outer layer. This is ideal for a long climb or a high-intensity interval training, for example. Simply unzip the windproof layer to increase ventilation temporarily, while the inner insulation layer retains its snug fit around your body. We have never seen such a warm cycling jacket with such good breathability!
Attention to detail
Every detail of the Castelli Alpha RoS 2 winter jacket has been designed with a focus on your comfort during cycling. The high neck section is stretchy and shaped to follow your movements regardless of whether you're standing or sitting. At the waist there is a stretchable layer with a silicon edge to prevent the jacket climbing up and the wind getting to you. Even at the wrists there is a double layer of fabric for optimal comfort; the tight inner layer fits directly around the wrists and keeps the cold out, while the outer layer is slightly wider so that your gloves fit underneath.
Good water-repellent properties
While this jacket has been designed for cycling in dry conditions, its water-repellent properties are so good we felt we had to mention them. The Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper material keeps out water better than you might expect, so the odd rain shower on the way will not cause any problems. In addition, there are sealed seams in crucial areas such as the shoulders.
All in all, the Alpha RoS 2 winter jacket for men is the most versatile performance jacket for cold weather training that Castelli has ever made.

Super jacket for very cold days.
Top cycling jacket for cold conditions (0°C and colder). Even (quiet) running possible without being completely wet in sweat.

excellent cycling jacket, i use it for skating. i notice that the inner jacket is tight in the armpits. (because I skate with my hands on my back) takes some getting used to but it's doable. grtz

Ideal winter cycling jacket
Only just owned, but it is a warmer version of the Perfetto RoS that I have been using for a long time. The Gore-tex Infinium Windstopper material used is really ideal for a cycling jacket. Windproof, breathable and also reasonably water repellent (keeps you dry for a surprisingly long time despite not being a waterproof membrane). The Alpha RoS 2 is the warmer version. Bought it myself for the colder days and based on experience with the Perfetto, I expect it to be usable from 7/8 degrees to ~0 (obviously depending on sun/wind). Finish of the jacket is very nice as is the fit. Fits well without being uncomfortable. I personally opted for an XL (186 / ~84kg). Two minor downsides are the zips. The zip for the "vest" on the inside has a somewhat small hook and is difficult to open with gloves on. Second point, the zip on the outside cannot be unzipped from the bottom. Incidentally much less important for the Alpha due to the colder conditions for which the jacket is suited, but miss it sometimes with the Perfetto. Neither insurmountable but good to take into account. By the way, if you are in doubt between this jacket and the Perfetto, I would go for the latter. If you wear enough layers underneath it, you can wear it to quite wintery temperatures too. But if, like me, you prefer cycling with fewer layers, this jacket is definitely a (warmer) addition to your wardrobe.

Everything you need
Lovely jacket, warm and water repellent. Buy this and you are ready for fall and winter

Surprisingly effective
Super breathability! When mountain biking, you sweat, but with this jacket, you dry quickly and feel comfortable again. I've been using it with just one undergarment from 0 to 8 degrees, but it can go below that. Excellent windproofing and well-finished sleeves.
