Campagnolo Centaur 11-speed Groupset

The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 groupset has gained an extra gear over its predecessor. The Centaur groupset is now 11-speed and Campagnolo is looking to take on the Shimano 105 groupset with this new kit. The technology is identical to the more expensive Revolution 11+ groupsets, but the materials used in the groupset's construction are different. This lowers the price, albeit at the expense of a little weight over its fellow groupsets. The new Centaur components are available in black and gloss silver. Technology

Shifters
The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 Ergopower Shifters are very similar to the high-end shifters. The body is made from a lightweight and strong polymer, while the levers are made from aluminium. They work like any other Campagnolo shifter. The shifters are located behind the brake lever and, as always, there's a thumb lever on the inside of the shifter.

Like with the Potenza groupset, the shifter technology is a direct copy of the Super Record groupset: change up through 3 cogs at a time, shift down one by one. The shifters have been given a more rounded top for improved ergonomics. The shifter covers offer more grip thanks to a more textured surface. A honeycomb structure on the inside acts as a damper to vibrations. The downshift button on the inside was modified so that it's even easier to change gears from the drops.

Front Derailleur
The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 front derailleur has a steel cage made from a single piece and a long arm. This greatly reduces how much force is required to change gears. The Centaur front derailleur offers sturdy and efficient performance, but looks great with the gloss silver or black top and chrome cage.

Rear Derailleur
The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 rear derailleur has been designed for cassettes with a 29 to 32T cog as its lightest gear. The new angle in relation to the cassette brings the chain closer to the cogs than ever before. The teeth on the top jockey wheel have been made longer while the lower jockey wheel uses shorter teeth. This causes smoother shifts and less friction on the chain when you're at extreme chain angles.

Crankset
The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 Crankset is the first aluminium version fitted with the Ultra-Torque axle. With this type of crankset, one half of the spindle is attached to the drive side, while the other half is fitted to the non-drive side. Halfway down your bottom bracket, the cogs firmly engage and are secured to each other. This makes the Centaur 2018 Crankset extremely stiff.

Like the more expensive 11-speed cranksets, the Centaur 2018 has a 4-arm spider. When it comes to gears, you have a choice between 52-36T and 50-34T. The chainrings are fitted with proprietary bolts. The mounting points are placed more towards the outside of the chainring, further improving stiffness.

Cassette
The Campagnolo Centaur 2018 cassette is an 11-speed cassette developed to offer silent and crisp gear changes. The lightweight aluminium spider keeps the weight down without sacrificing performance. The 11 steel cogs with a slightly less glossy finish (compared to the 11-speed Potenza cassette) provide a longer service life.
