have to buy new ones every 2 years because there is a lot of play between the pedal and the footplates. The carbon/plastic just wears away due to sand etc. Still buy the same ones again because otherwise I have to buy new plates for other shoes too. Next bike but different pedals....

After the second pair of Look pedals have given up with me, (first bearing seized up, second pedal body at the interface with Cleat worn out each used just under a year) there was now the Shimano R8000 about the durability I can not say much, but it feels much better processed. Furthermore, the interface pedal cleat is wider and larger which translates into a noticeably more stable connection to wheel. Another plus is that I get a few mm more clearance at the position of the cleats on the shoe then because the slotted holes are slightly larger. Negative: Quite higher price

I'm no Shimano fan but these pedals are good quality. They are renowned for good bearings and lifespan generally. Feel stiffer than the Look Keo they replace. However, a touch pricey even when discounted and I wouldn't dream of paying RRP for them, ever.

I was using SPD pedals with my MTB shoe's on my new road bike. I have 1,90m and notice my foot were very close to my cranks so I’ve ordered the +4mm longer version and that improved my ride confort and knee position! I’ve done a total of 400km with them so far and I’m very happy with this upgrade. Impressive quality pedal and great service from Mantel, very quick delivery to Portugal! I had a cheaper group of shimano pedals and replaced it with this Ultegra ones, mostly because I wanted a lighter pedal and more durable. The only thing I noticed was the wider platform that allowed a better support while pedalling. The quality and weight are very impressive and the price was unbeatable.

Fantastic pedals and a first class service from the guys at Mantel. I had spent years cycling road bikes with SPD pedals under the myth they are easier to get your feet out of. This year I was determined to try SL pedals for myself. This is my second set, asi have popped them on both road bikes. The confidence they have given me through the larger contact area is phenomenal. They are beautifully made, extremely light, and pretty okay to get out of.

I’ve been been running Crank Brothers Quattro SLs (remember those?) for years now, but finally after I recently developed knee issue, I decided to try a wider and more stable pedal-platform (I.e. less inboard-outboard tilt). All options were on the table for me. I settled on Ultrgra R8000, for weight, price, width, serviceability, axle-length options, float and tension adjustments. It took me one ride to learn how to clip in out and dial in my new cleat position. It took me one other ride to fall in love with the R8000. My knee pains have gone completely, thanks to more forefoot stability. I had concerns about cornering with these, as they’re wider than i’m Used to, but the pedal profiling is excellent, and slightly ramped in cross-section, so I could pedal full-gas round pretty tight corners and happily not strike ground. They are silent, silky smooth, rock solid, with only a loud ‘clack’ in entry and exit. I would buy again, and again. Mantel were also the best price around, and delivered to me in the UK next day. Job done!
