Description

Description

The Sealskinz Cold Weather Mid Hydrostop sock is ideal in temperatures around freezing and when it is raining or snowing. Because this 19 cm high sock consists of no less than three layers, it is not only warm but also waterproof and durable. The lining is made of Merino wool, which makes the sock nice and warm and also provides good moisture regulation as well as extra comfort. The Hydrostop barrier at the top of the sock ensures that water from above cannot come in and flows nicely over the sock. The flat seams complete the Sealskinz Cold Weather Mid Hydrostop socks, as they ensure minimal friction in the shoe.

For now, satisfied with an interesting addition.

- Robert 20 December 2022

Was pleased to find 2 pairs of these socks including Hydrostop at a relatively low price with no delivery charges. Smooth handling. Purpose is mainly for (Swedish) tour skating m.h.o.o. wet feet or swimming. In the latter case, I then possibly have a spare pair for in the wet shoes, in addition to the other spare clothing. To wonder if my feet would stay dry when swimming. I don't assume so. Immediately practical. One must realize they probably cannot be washed with ordinary detergents. For my purpose, rather a concern is having to dry them 2x, including once inside out. The same applies in a spin dryer. Without the latter, it is convenient to squeeze them out and hang them upside down 2x. Waterproofing I tested by standing in a bucket and moving around. That went well with both pairs, after very little use. It was interesting to compare them with regular thick socks, wearing 1 pair of each kind at the same time. In the house, walking outside, and rowing in cold weather. - Breathing went well, noticed little or no difference. - Warmth was the same. Suffering from cold feet in the rowing boat, I was hoping for more warmth from Sealskinz due to their sealing. That didn't come true. The "Hydrostop" was a bonus with this purchase. Is in itself simply a rubbery strip. May seal a bit better against running water (not tested). Also helps against sagging. Handy to roll them off first when putting them on. For sizing, it is really a matter of luck to be at the upper end of the range, as the socks do not adjust to the feet very much. With my 42, I came out just fine in M 39-42. The socks are quite thick and feel rubbery, but are not obstructive. I've also skated with them for a day now, in half-height hiking boots. Durability of socks and the 'Hydrostop' not yet able to test. For now satisfied with an interesting addition.

Dry but still cold feet

- Maarten 30 January 2021

Less warm than hoped for, sock is quite thick so your shoes have to be a bit roomy otherwise it won't fit. With neoprene overshoes still cold feet at 0 degrees. Feet stay dry though. Think ideal in wet weather around 5 degrees. All in all, they disappoint me.

No hot sock

- Les 5 January 2021

My 16€ Castelli Quindici socks are warmer than these. Thick stiff socks that don't even feel fine in terms of fabric when you have them on. Not recommended below 10°C. The outer side of the sock does get soaking wet so the cold also comes right through.

Pros & Cons

not a comfortable sock
not warm enough in cold weather
not worth the money
