KMC X FLAT Waxed Chain

The KMC X Flat Waxed chain combines a flat, asymmetrical design with a durable wax treatment for a quiet and efficient drivetrain. The flat-top profile increases strength and hardness, and the wax coating reduces friction and keeps the chain clean. The result is a smooth-running chain with consistent shifting performance and low maintenance.

The chain is composed of precision-formed steel links with an asymmetrical flattop construction in which both the top and bottom sides are flat. This shape enlarges the contact area between the links, which increases structural strength and ensures a stable and quiet chain. The chain is treated with KMC GO CHAIN WAX, a dry wax coating that penetrates deep into the links. This wax reduces internal friction, and the chain remains flexible under load.

The wax treatment is an important detail of this chain. Unlike oil-based lubricants, the wax layer remains less sticky and better resists dirt and dust adhesion to the links. This reduces chain and sprocket wear as well as maintenance needs. The combination of construction and finish results in an efficient and durable drivetrain that does not require any troublesome after-treatment.

KMC's X Flat Waxed chain is compatible with 12/13-speed drive systems and specifically designed for SRAM AXS road, MTB and gravel groups. With 126 links, it can be mounted on different wheel and frame sizes.

Use missing-link pliers
A missing link is included as standard with this chain. It makes chain installation very easy and is also ideal when you want to give your bike a thorough cleaning. To open and close the missing link, you need missing-link pliers, which can be found here.

Shorten the chain with a chain breaker tool
When you buy a new chain, it is always too long and you will have to adjust its length. To do so, you need to break the chain, which requires a chain breaker tool. You can find our chain breaker tools here. Make sure you choose one for the right number of speeds.

Mounting tips
When installing or removing a chain, we recommend breaking the tension on the part of the chain where you are going to break it. To do so, you can take an old spoke and make a hook out of it, or check your chain breaker tool because some have a convenient hook. Put this hook through the part of the chain on which you want to work, which locally removes the tension from the chain.

How often should I clean my bike? Regular bike cleaning makes your equipment last longer and lets you enjoy cycling for longer! How often you need to clean your bike depends on the weather conditions in which you cycle. Do you ride in all weathers or only when the sun shines? This affects the degree of wear, and you may have to clean one bike more often than other ones. The schedule below can serve as a guideline:

October - March:
• Clean every 200 km
• Rinse off after every ride
• Dry the chain after every ride and wax if necessary
• Let the bike dry at room temperature

April - September:
• Clean every 300 km
• Rinse off after a ride in the rain
• Dry the chain after cleaning/rinsing and wax if necessary
• Let the bike dry at room temperature
