This speed changes during pedalling and slows down as you move towards the vertical position, i.e. with the pedal up. Many other power meters see this speed as a constant, which is based on round chainrings. These other powermeters cannot be used with oval chainrings. As the Favero Assioma DUO powermeter pedals measure exactly how fast you pedal, it doesn't matter what kind of chainrings you have. The Favero Assioma DUO powermeter pedals can also be used with oval chainrings.

The technique they use to measure this is called Favero IAV, or Instantaneous Angular Velocity.
