The Wolf Tooth Elliptical Shimano XT M8000 oval chainrings are suitable for Shimano 96 mm BCD cranksets like the XT M8000, SLX M7000, Deore M6000 and Deore M5100. Fits various 9/10/11 speed groupsets and some 12 speed chains. Not compatible with Shimano Hyperglide+ 12 speed chains. The wide-narrow sprocket teeth profile ensures that your chain cannot run off the chainring. Wide Narrow is the alternating use of narrow and wider teeth on the front chainring, which keep the chain stable and tight in 1 line, preventing the chain from falling off. Thanks to the Wolf Tooth's oval chainring, the dead point in your pedal stroke is eliminated. The point where the force is the smallest, the chainring is immediately lifted over the dead point.
Wolf Tooth's patented design means a slightly (10%) less oval shape with a less aggressive position (112°) than competitors' variants. While an oval chainring hardly affects ride feel, it certainly has big advantages in terms of power transfer. Especially during climbing. An oval chainring's diametre is equivalent to that of one that has 2 more teeth at the point where you can put most toque on your pedals for the best power transfer.

Cleverly thought out, feels right.

The oval sprocket gives a very natural feel. I expect the oval shape of the sprocket also reduces wear on the chain due to the more constant power distribution. Even on a steeper slope, you are less likely to get the effect of pulling the front wheel off the surface due to the more constant power distribution.
Pros & Cons
