Vittoria Mezcal + Barzo XC Race TLR MTB Tyre

With this set comprising the Vittoria Barzo and Mezcal XC Race TLR, you get the best of both tyres. On the front is the Barzo: a tyre with an open tread pattern and sturdy knobs on the side, for plenty of grip in corners and on loose, rough terrain. It’s the tyre with which Vittoria won world titles in cross-country. At the rear is the Mezcal, with low, closely spaced knobs in the centre. It rolls lightly and quickly, so you expend less energy.

This set is ideal for cross-country and marathon riding, on dry forest trails, tree roots and rocky sections, and even in wet conditions. You can choose the width (2.25 or 2.40 inches) and a black or brown sidewall. You may wish to order sealant at the same time, so you can ride tubeless straight away.

Racing tyre with Graphene + Silica

Vittoria uses a rubber compound in the centre of the tyre that rolls as lightly as possible, and a rubber compound on the sides that provides good grip. The addition of graphene and silica makes the tyre fast whilst still providing good grip, even on wet roots.

XC Race TLR carcass (60 TPI)

The carcass is the tyre’s framework. This nylon carcass, with 60 threads per inch, is supple, allowing the tyre to mould well to the terrain. At the same time, it is sturdy enough to prevent punctures.

Tubeless ready (TLR)

The tyres are designed to be ridden without an inner tube. With a little sealant inside, small punctures seal themselves, and you can ride with lower tyre pressure for better grip and comfort.

Fits

• Mountain bikes with 29-inch wheels (ETRTO 622).
• Frames and front forks with sufficient clearance for 2.25 or 2.40-inch-wide tyres.
• Tubeless rims, or standard rims with an inner tube.
• Cross-country and marathon riding, on dry and wet forest trails, over roots and rocks.

Not suitable for

• 27.5-inch wheels (ETRTO 584).
• Electric mountain bikes.
• Rides through deep mud: for this, you’ll need a tyre with a deeper tread pattern.

Not sure? Here’s how to check

Look at the sidewall of your current tyre. It will show a size such as “29 x 2.25” or “57-622”. If it says 29-inch or 622, this set will fit your rim. If you’re planning to ride with wider tyres, check the manual or your bike brand’s website to find out the maximum tyre width. Also check what tyre width your rim manufacturer recommends.

Not included / still needed or useful

• Tubeless valves, if your wheels don’t already have them, such as the Muc-Off Tubeless Valve Kit.
• Sealant, if you don’t order it with your kit: for example, Mantel Bio Tyre Sealant.
• A repair kit for on the go, such as the Lezyne Tubeless Kit.
• 29-inch inner tubes, if you’re not riding tubeless: available from our inner tubes.

You can easily fit these tyres yourself. With an inner tube, it takes about a quarter of an hour per wheel; tubeless tyres take a little longer. You’ll need tyre levers, and for tubeless tyres you’ll also need a pump that delivers a large volume of air in one go, so that the tyre clicks firmly into place against the rim. You’ll find these amongst our tubeless pumps. Fit the Barzo to your front wheel and the Mezcal to your rear wheel. If there is an arrow on the side of the tyre, fit it in that direction of rotation.

• When riding tubeless, start with a lower tyre pressure than you’re used to. This provides better grip and comfort. Never exceed the maximum pressure stated on the side of the tyre.
• If you’re riding tubeless, check a few times a year to make sure there’s still enough sealant in your tyres. Dried-out sealant won’t seal punctures any more.
• Check your rear tyre regularly for wear. The low knobs on the Mezcal wear out faster than the high knobs on the Barzo.
• Clean your tyres after a muddy ride so that you can spot any cuts or small stones lodged in the tread in good time.
