Technology
The stiff carbon outer sole provides optimum power transferenceThe RC701 road bike shoes have a very rigid and lightweight carbon outer sole. The stiff carbon outer sole provides optimum power transference to the pedals, resulting in more speed.
The inner sole features Shimano’s Dynalast system that puts your feet in an ergonomic position and results in a more efficient upward motion. In short, you pedal more easily which makes you go faster.
Flexible synthetic imitation leather for durability and ventilation
The RC701 is made of smooth synthetic artificial leather. This is a stronger, more durable and more breathable material than real leather. This ensures that this cycling shoe lasts a long time and that the foot temperature remains at a comfortable level during intense efforts.
Two BOA L6 Dial systems for optimal adjustment and fit
The dual independent BOA L6 dials allow quick and precise adjustments. This system ensures a perfect fit across the forefoot. And you can easily adjust the fit with a simple turn of the dial even while cycling.
So basically, with the Shimano RC701 shoes you go faster without much additional effort. As such, they are a real asset for the fanatical cyclist!
User tips
Detailed explanation of sizing in mmIn order to help you, as best we can, to choose the right size shoe we have measured all the shoes ourselves. All that's left for you to do is measure your own foot length, and we'll tell you which shoe size per brand suits you best. Does your foot length in mm not appear on the relevant product's page? Then that particular shoe is not available in a size that suits your foot length.
You can easily measure your foot length using an A4 sheet of paper, placed on the floor against a wall. Stand with one foot on the piece of paper, with your heel against the wall. Draw a line above your big toe (or above the index toe if that is longer). Now mark your other foot on the paper in the same way. Measure both - the measurement of your longest foot is your foot length in mm's! Please note: some manufacturers have their own measuring system, and as a result what appears on the shoebox can deviate from what we have measured.
What shoe size you need can differ per brand. This is because certain brands wear larger or smaller. To help you get the perfect fit, we've also classified the shoes as narrow, average, or wide fit. Read all about it in our blog!

Good shoe
Once cleat in the correct place, really good I had not used Boa before, and they are great Only thing I have to get used to is they are a little bit awkward when you put put your foot into the shoe. Looking forward to warmer days!

Wow what a shoe
Shimano haven't failed in delivering quality in every aspect of these shoes. I love these shoes and they look great too (i got them in red). The fit is great, found them true to size for me I am 7.5 in running shoes so ordered 42. They are really comfortable, each ride felt a little better and now you don't even know you have them on. The stiffness in the sole is really stiff and transfers really well. The boa dials are great and its easy to make fine adjustments either tightening or loosening for extra comfort.

Stiff but comfy shoes
I bought these as my first foray into proper road shoes. Since most of miles had previously been commuting I needed to be able to walk easily and so had been using mtb shoes with spd pedals. Since lockdown started I’ve just been getting miles in on my road bike without needing to get off and walk so thought I’d invest in some road shoes and spd sl pedals. Coming from Scott team boa mtb shoes my thoughts on the new Shimano are: Comfort - straight out the box and slipping my feet in for the first time they are really comfy. Plenty of padding at the contact points around the ankle and nice pliant upper material so no bedding in needed to break in as such. ✅ longer term (done about 600 miles in them now) I’ve had to tinker with how tight I do up the boa dials a bit (to avoid numb toes on longer rides) but still really pleased. Stiffness - as above, I’m coming from mtb shoes so possibly not an entirely fair comparison here. The Scott mtb shoes have a stiffness rating of 8 though so they are decent. New Shimanos are notably stiffer, particularly when I’m out of the saddle and giving it some real effort - then you can really feel the energy you’re putting in being translated into forward motion - a nice feeling. To be fair I’ve changed to spd sl pedals from spd at the same time so I can’t say how much is down to the shoes alone but it’s a definite improvement. Looks - they look ace. Rather shiny at the front but the fade from shiny red to Matt black looks v cool. Also nice and easy to wipe clean and keep looking nice. Fit - spot on! I based my choice on having measured my biggest foot (at 27cm) and went for the size 44 based on the internal shoe dimension as provided by Mantel. Not so tight to cut off blood circulation but can get them plenty tight enough between the two boa dials (the way the upper boa works by pulling quite a wide strap across your foot works really well in evening out the pressure and avoiding pressure points. Overall really happy with my purchase, thanks! Overall I am really
