Do not buy if you have at least 25mm wide tyres

- Roel, 6 February, 2022

The front mudguard cannot be fitted properly, because the steel holder in the front fork runs into the 25 mm tyre: there is only ± 1< mm of space. If there is some sand and grit in between, it fills up completely and you hear all kinds of scraping noises. Have already had to stop a few times on the road and try to bend it slightly to hopefully create more space. The ugly tip at the front vibrates like a bobble head when cycling on a bumpy road and have had to bend it up a bit. All in all, not a good purchase!

Pros & Cons

Rear sits well and not too tight
Behind is an ugly logo+product text
Front far too tight with 25mm tyre
Front vibrates and looks ugly
Unclear manual and video

Fine wings with some special features

- Patrick, 18 January, 2022

Mudguards work fine, though they often run into the tyre when put on hard. Especially at the front part, it is very loose and vibrates continuously.

Pros & Cons

Easy to remove
No spray for cyclists behind you
You stay dry
As a result, front part wobbles a lot
Mounting for support too long
With 25mm tyres and quick-release skewer, catching on

Top product

- Ronald, 11 January, 2022

It is obviously not as sturdy as on a city bike but keeps you perfectly clean and dry. Small mudguard behind seat tube is almost impossible to mount due to limited space. All mudguards are easy and quick to remove.

Easy to assemble, sleek & functional.

- Hans, 5 December, 2021

Mudguards from SKS are super solid and easy to install. I hesitated to install them on a road bike but they give my old black steel Diamond a sleek look.

Pros & Cons

Does not drag, even with 25mm tyres
Easy mounting
No more splashing dirt
Sleek appearance
Short piece of front mudguard rattles.

Great fenders for race bikes.

- Sebastian, 10 January, 2021

Essential winter kit if you like a dry bum and to ride for more than an hour in the wet. Mudguards are a pain to fit, but these are about as easy as it gets (Still a bit of a faff though), and once done they're easy to adjust to get right.

Pros & Cons

Easy to fit
They're light
Work as well as long mudguards
Fiddle to remove the wheel
Front short piece bounces around
Rear short piece didn't fit my bike

does not fit road bike with disc brakes

- Mart, 9 January, 2021

Looks solid, but not mountable on a road bike with disc brakes. I doubt the mounting brackets at the wheels are suitable on a bike with fixed axles

Pros & Cons

looks solid
not on road bike with disc brake

Good but could be better.

- Richard, 23 December, 2020

Easy to fit although not sure how easy it will be to refit wheels after a puncture especially if you have disc brakes. Main gripe is that rear mudguard does not come down far enough to protect front mech. Extended mine with a section of previous mudguard.

Pros & Cons

At £35, reasonable price.
Easy to fit
Will fit with minimum frame clearance.
Fiddly to refit wheels after puncture.
No protection for front mech

Well made easy to fit

- Dave, 22 December, 2020

Good quality guard with great coverage, front section of the front guard is a bit ‘flappy’ also a bit awkward to remove wheels as the skewer provides the lower fixing but once fitted they are a great robust set of guards

As mudguards go don't over look these

- Stuart, 2 December, 2020

I purchased these as a replacement for Giant specific mud guards on my winter road bike (Giant Defy / 2016). Giant specific ones fail on the bracket to the brake mount (common fault). Im running 25cc and they were always a 'rub' on any climb. So these seemed a worthy investment. Value (from Mantel!.. where have you been all my life?? Its the first time I'd ever heard of you and that was a random google search for "Giant mudguards".. I'd be speaking to your web boys hasta pronto re this!!).. So.. these were amazing, and reviews were good so gave them a go. In summary I'm really impressed.. Like REALLY IMPRESSED. I'm thinking SKS are a German company? The quality is amazing, and the instructions super easy to follow. They are stupidly easy to fit, and I've not had any 'rub' up any welsh climb (and yep, we are talking proper steep.. wheel swinging steep). They are substantial and well engineered. I'd give them a 10 bar two points (and they are just quibbles..bl**dy English.. Typical.. don't know a good thing when it slaps them in the face.. and then a load of English turnips vote to leave a good thing for a clearly bad thing.. wtf?!?.. idiots.. sorry, I digress.. ).. 1) The front Mudguard - ie the bit forward of the fork. It wobbles. bounces off the front wheel. Not enough to effect the ride, but def is the source of most of the noise. Not a problem on smooth tarmac, but on our rubbish UK roads, blighted with potholes and poor maintenance its a noise source. So if you live in Spain, or basically anywhere rather than a rubbish country (aka the UK) you'll be fine. If you do live here.. and god help you if you do.. I'd suggest a) find an Irish grandparent, or B) marry anyone other than someone from the UK. Period. Its your only hope... ('Luke'.. for the starwars fans..:-) 2) (and this is no doubt my fault). They fit on your QR skewers. It says this on the 'tin'. I kinda (wrongly) guessed that they would attach (also) to the fixings for guards on the Defy. Nope, they don't. So.. It means that taking a wheel off (for a clean etc) means its rather 'involved'. Tbh its a) not insurmountable, and b) my fault for not researching properly.. That said. These are far better guards than the giant specific ones, better protection, better space between the wheel and guard, and a great price. If someone asked me, "Im in the market for guards.. Id say go check out Mantel and these SKS blades. I'm very happy :-)

Solidly-made dependable guards to keep you and your ride buddies spray-free in the winter

- Duncan, 18 November, 2020

Easy fitting for a standard caliper brake/bridge setup. Easy to adjust and virtually no rattling or rubbing once adjusted. Fit is perfect even with tiny tyre clearance on my tubeless 28c’s. Took me minutes to fit and adjust. Minor gripes would be i) the front guard has a heavy plastic nose that makes it flap a bit; ii) there are too many long brackets in the set and only one short one, so not great for sharing the guards with multiple bikes; iii) much chunkier than the old ones - bad because they look chunky, good because they are chunky (and therefore stronger and less prone to breakage).

Pros & Cons

Easy to fit/adjust
Look like they belong there
Well-made
Heavy nose on front guard
Only suitable for brake bridges and QR skewers?

Generally very good, fairly easy to fit but a couple of issues.

- ANDREW, 11 November, 2020

My bike is a 2016 Bt'win Triban 300. I'd had some problems finding mudguards to fit but found Raceblade Long recommended on an online forum. My first problem was trying to fit the clip brackets to the lugs on my forks instead of the wheel hub - I realised my mistake when the mudguards wouldn't fit round the tyres. Next problem was trying to get enough clearance on the brake mounting brackets to stop the guards from rubbing against the tyre. Managed to get acceptable clearance by squeezing an old rag between tyre and bracket. Final problem is vibration and rubbing of the short top section on front mudguard. Finally managed to reduce this to an acceptable level using a strong rubber band to pull it back towards the frame.

Pros & Cons

Easy to attach and remove once installed
Great for riding in the wet
Lightweight
Fiddly to get installed correctly
Installation instructions could be clearer
Vibration and movement in the short front section

As good as it gets

- Geoffrey, 10 November, 2020

Mudguards fit my 25mm tyres well, however the front section does rattle a little over bumps. They do perform really well on wet roads and mean I can commute by bike more often. Would definitely buy them again.
