Good waterproof bags with solid hook system

- Gideon, 19 January, 2024

Super convenient hooking system, my bag has never been knocked off the carrier. The hooks are also strong. Only the new construction of the hooks is not as good, they kept rattling until I put ti-raps between them. The material is stiffer than my old Back-Roller bags, so it rolls up more difficult.

Pros & Cons

Easily adjustable hooks
Waterproof
Hooks keep rattling, secured with ti-raps
The material is stiffer than my old Back Roller

40 litre volume is a huge plus for all aspects of winter cycling & touring.

- John, 12 December, 2022

Having used Ortlieb Front Roller Plus Panniers [Cordura construction, 25 litres combined volume] in ever day use for 7 years I 'upgraded' to the Back Roller Classic for winter use [PVC construction, 40 litres combined volume]. Excellent quality & adaptability from Ortlieb.

Pros & Cons

40 litre + volume
Affordable replaceable component parts
Extra durable construction
Fully waterproof & easy to clean
Highly adaptable hardware set
Heavier & stiffer than Cordura version

Extensive closure.

- Rolf, 3 March, 2022

Did not understand from the description that it is the shoulder strap that is used for locking, closing the bag. It is a bit awkward to get it in the right place. Would rather have seen that there were buckles on the sides.

Pros & Cons

Easy to put on the bike
Good size
Water-resistant
Circumstantial closure

Ideal bags for commuting and vacation

- Jeroen, 8 August, 2021

We already had two sets of these bags front and rear. We really like them so without hesitation we bought another set of rear bags so that all of us in our family can carry luggage during our cycling vacations.

Pros & Cons

easy to adjust on carrier
solid and strong
strap for carrying the bag over the shoulder

Super quality - real relief

- Andrea, 30 August, 2020

Super processed, real relief - otherwise I was always on the road with backpack - and a real space miracle. Only the shoulder straps are rather well-intentioned instead of really helpful. Clearly you wear the bag actually on the wheel - if you take it but then loaded the carrying is not very comfortable - then but prefer to reach for the bag with "backpack function" ;)

Pros & Cons

Absolutely waterproof
Good workmanship
Quick and easy assembly
Shoulder strap could be better padded

Quality bicycle panniers that last years.

- OLIVER, 17 March, 2019

I spoje to someone from Mantel. The person was very helpful. I was clarifying an issue before l bought the bicycle panniers. You could make it clearer the litre size and the exact model type. I bought x2 Ortlieb bicycle panniers and an really pleased by this purchase. Before l bought a cheap bicycle pannier and it basically fell apart. These Ortlieb bicycle panniers, hold enough for me to do a large shop and carry back on my bicycle. I like the amount you can fit into the panniers, the bright colours, the sturdy quality and the easy attachment and release system. The positives definitely outlay the negatives, but if there are negatives l would say these two things: (1) It's vdry easy for the release strap to get caughtbinside the plastic grasping hooks, which then make a it hard to release the panniers. (2) The fabric strap on the outside of the pannier, is not long enough to clip on when you have a lot of stuff inside the pannier. I have to use an elastic strap in order to close the pannier.

Pros & Cons

Bright colours.
Excellent Quality
Holds a huge amount of items.
Quick and easy to attach and release.
Stays secure when cycling.
The release handle gets caught easily between the
The strap which cloes the bag, isn't long enough

4 / 5

Great design, but expensive

- JP, 16 March, 2019

There's no denying that these panniers are probably the best available. They're easy to use, well-made and have lots of well-thought out features. I can't think of how this design could be improved on, but if I really had to come up with a negative it would be the straps. They're fiddly to tuck into the little holders to prevent them fouling the wheels as you ride. The only other negative would be the price. It's a lot of money, but they do look like they're built to last.

Pros & Cons

Easy to install
Easy to remove from rack
Light weight, yet robust
Reflective patches and bright colours
Waterproof
Kind of expensive
Plastic clasps seem a bit flimsy
Roll-up closure takes some getting used to
Straps need to be tucked away
