The new Garmin 850 is a good GPS with nearly all the functions of the Edge 1000. Display size is sufficient, the touchscreen is very practical for data entry. Sometimes the touch panel registers an entry before the screen is touched, therefore some undo-do actions might be required before an address is entered. The new energy saver mode is great and gives you the option for longer rides - or just ensures that your trip recording can be completed in case you forgot to charge the unit beforehand. The routing option is not yet in a perfect working mode: For short trips it works fine, but for A to B trips over 100 km I recommend to check the route. On several occasions I have been send on paths that are longer than 20% of the shortest way. Additionally, when a road is used instead of the bicycle path or vice versa the unit may claim that you are going the wrong way and ask you to make a U-turn. When turning wrongly, recalculation may take some considerable time where no further routing information is shown. But as usual I assume that Garmin is going to improve the routing function in the future, as their products are rarely fully mature when they hit the market.
