Top product!
In my experience, this pedal gives just a bit more support (= thus more power transfer) than a normal SPD pedal. This is with shoes where the SPD cleats do not go beyond the bottom of the shoe sole, because then the cage only serves as protection. That protection the cage does well; I recently had a collision with a fairly thick branch on the path and the cage 'hit' it. I think it's a top product so far and take the few more grams they bring with them for granted!

Practical and comfortable pedals
For years I used PD-T421 pedals with a click system on one side and flat on the other. Since I almost always click the shoes on, it is an annoyance when the pedal is wrong every time. Especially if I go through town on my racing bike and get on at traffic lights. It is very distracting. These pedals are symmetrical, your feet easily find the pedal and the click point. If you minimise the spring tension, they click in and out easily and you really don't need special "klick'r" pedals. The large platform is also comfortable. They are not light but certainly not clunky. Haven't tested the maximum tension but they are real MTB pedals.
