Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Varia RVR315 Rearview Radar alerts you to traffic behind you from a distance of 140 meters.
- Because the RVR315 is equipped with ANT+ and Bluetooth, it is possible to connect the Rearview Radar with your Edge bike computer, Garmin smartwatch, smartphone and even some other bike computers.
- Thanks to a new attachment, it also fits on D-shaped, aero and round seat posts.
- Unlike the RTL515, the RVR315 does not have a rear light. This makes the unit a lot smaller.
- The Varia RVR315 Rearview Radar only works with a few types of cycle computers from other brands.
- The battery life of 7 hours is on the short side when you can't recharge on the road during multiple day trips.

With the RVR315, the Garmin Varia Rearview Radar is now available in a version without rear light, unlike the Varia RTL515 Rearview Radar. This way, you have the possibility to use your favourite rear light, but still see the traffic approaching you from behind. The RVR315 also offers a solution when you don't have much space on your seatpost. The Garmin Varia RVR315 Rearview Radar has a battery life of up to 7 hours.
The Garmin Varia Radar uses radio waves to detect traffic coming up from behind. The smart rear light emits radio waves constantly while cycling. When a car comes up behind you, the radio waves bounce off it. A sensor in the Varia captures these returning radio waves and communicates them to your bike computer, so you will get an alert whenever a car is coming up! Of course, radar technology has been used in aviation and shipping for a long time. More and more car manufacturers are also using it to make their vehicles smarter and safer. In the world of cycling, its use is still relatively new, and the Garmin Varia is a highly innovative invention to make cycling in heavy traffic even safer.
Waterproof
The Garmin Varia radar is IPX7 certified so you can use it in a wide range of weather conditions.
Connectivity
The radar has ANT+ and bluetooth connectivity.
• Mounting hardware
• USB cable
• Owner's Manual

Just Garmin. Connect and it works
Cool part. The fact that several cars or bikes are recognised and displayed is also very cool
4 / 5
Useful and recommended for cyclists who often tour on the carriageway without a cycle path
Satisfied with operation an indication of vehicles arriving behind
Pros & Cons

Radar 'sees' everything, works very well.
Assembly and pairing were done in 20 minutes. The thing works very well, all traffic approaching from behind is clearly indicated on the side of the image. From a person on an e-step to other cyclists, speedpedelecs, cars,.... even a train when I was riding next to the railway, everything was detected. Even when I was riding in the rain and there was a fair amount of sludge splashed on it.

top purchase
instantly feel better on the bike done with unexpected road users
Pros & Cons
4 / 5
It's worth it.
I had to stretch the rubber mount well because of the aero shape of the seat post. It is very reliable, although it gives some false positives at crossroads or in groups, which is to be expected. In windy conditions and head-on traffic, it is much appreciated.
