The FSA Powerbox Carbon Power meter comes from a cooperation between FSA and Power2max. When two big names in the cycling industry come together to work on a project like this, you can expect a high quality end result. This power meter offers single-sided measurement but with the option to expand to dual-sided measurements later on. Due to pending patents, it won’t be until August 2017 that we’ll see an update to go double-sided. Power is measured in the spider of the crankset. The spider is the connection between the chainrings and right half of the cranks.

The FSA Powerbox only needs to calibrated once after being paired to your cycling computer. For now it uses ANT+ only, but after the August update it’ll offer Bluetooth Smart as well. Battery life is between 300 and 400 hours, and replacing the battery can easily be done at home. The Powerbox itself isn’t affected by weather conditions or temperature fluctuations, and offers a measurement accuracy of ±2%. The overall weight of the crankset is impressive on the low side of things at just 585 grams.
