The Shimano 105 R7120 Disc groupset is equipped with disc brakes which, provided they are properly braked in, will always bring you to a timely and powerful stop, which is nice for road safety. The space between the brake pads has also been widened by 10%, making them less likely to seize. Thanks to the 1:1 gear ratio, climbs are even easier.

Disc brakes
The disc brakes have also been taken in hand. The aluminium Shimano 105 caliper consists of 2 parts and is CNC-milled. Like the Dura-Ace and Ultegra calipers, 10% more space has been created between the pads and the discs. This has ensured that the brakes have little to no touching when you are not braking. Nothing is more annoying than brake discs seizing on a climb or in a sprint. Moreover, braking power and metering are noticeably improved.

Shimano Shadow RD
The Shimano 105 12-speed mechanical rear derailleur uses Shadow technology where the derailleur cage is aligned under the cassette for damage protection. The derailleur pad and derailleur cage are sensitive parts when it comes to transportation or in a crash thanks to Shadow technology, chances for technical problems or damage are slimmer.

Hyperglide
Hyperglide cassettes are available in different ratios. When choosing these ratios, the 'sweet spot', on the 6th, 7th and 8th cogs, has been taken into account. 12-speed allows the gears that ride most comfortably at medium speeds to be retained despite large ratio differences. The cassettes come with the HG mounting pattern, which is also compatible with all Shimano HG 11-speed bodies.

Brake maintenance
Brake maintenance has been simplified. It is possible to bleed the brake without removing the caliper from the frame, thanks to a separate bleed port and rotary valve. A new hopper and spacer for bleeding the caliper help to optimise the bleeding process.
