The Shimano 105 5800 Direct Mount brakes are inspired on their counter part, the Ultegra 6810. Thanks to its symmetrical dual pivot design (two joints) its stopping power increased with 10 percent. Shimano believes strongly in this new brake mount, and manufacturers such as Trek and Bulls already use this new standard on a couple of bikes.
