The difference between "hot" wax and "drip" wax
Wax is a commonly used cycling lubricant. The most common waxes are "drip" waxes. In drip waxes, the wax is mixed with a liquid to make it easier to apply to your chain. The liquid will evaporate a few hours after application, and the wax will remain on your chain. The disadvantage of these drip waxes is that the wax will never entirely fill the crevices in your chain, due to the evaporation of the liquid. This means there will always be places in your chain that can gather dirt, which results in more wear and tear, and increased resistance. The main advantage of "hot" wax is that it's 100% wax, which means you can apply a full layer of wax on your chain in one go. By filling all openings and crevices of your chain with wax, you make sure there won't be space for dirt left.
