The complete 9070 group weighs about 2276 grams, which is more than 170 grams less than the old 10-speed 7900 Dura Ace Di2 groupset by Shimano. Another innovation is that the rear derailleur is compatible with a 28T cassette.

The 11-speed cassette is two centimeter wider than the old 10-speed groupset. The thickness of the sprockets remained the same, but the spacers are slightly narrower. The result of this is that the new cassette only fits on the new Shimano 9000 series wheels. The brakes have also been redesigned. This means the brakes have a double pivot point,so two pivot points instead of one. According to Shimano these brakes provide better control and more stopping power.
