Description
After the Ultegra groupset had been given 11 gears, it was now the turn for the immensely popular 105 group to undergo the same treatment. The Shimano 105 5800 groupset has been completely redesigned when it received its 11th gear. Many of the techniques used in the Ultegra 6800 groupset now also feature in Shimano's 105 5800 tier. The composition of the groupset is up to you, all we do is make sure you don't mix incompatible items with one another. For instance, an 11-25 doesn't work optimally with a long cage rear derailleur, while an 11-32 will not work with a short-caged one. We've made sure incompatible combinations are locked out and can therefore not be ordered. The choice of cranks and bottom bracket bearings are entirely up to you and your bike however!
The newly designed crank was designed for an optimal power transfer. The new and reinforced construction of the chainring has the perfect balance between weight and stiffness. The 4-armed design allows the crank to be rebuilt to a double (53/39) or compact (50/34) without the need to purchase a whole new crank.
The 105 5800 groupset has technological improvements we also saw in the 6800 Ultegra group. The difference in quality has never been as small. If you’re interested in an excellent price/performance ratio, this is the perfect groupset for you; a no-nonsense, reliable, durable and excellent performance group with an attractive design.
