Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- This tyre has earned the right to call itself "flat-less" because the SmartGuard anti-puncture layer makes a flat virtually impossible.
- The ADDIX wear-resistant rubber compound ensures an extremely long product life.
- The Reflex reflective strips on the sides increase your visibility in traffic during the day and in the dark.
- The tyre is available in multiple widths ranging from 28 to 47 mm, each compatible with standard bikes and e-bikes with a top speed of 25 km/h.
- As the focus is on puncture protection and durability, the tyre is relatively heavy.

If you ride an e-bike capable of speeds over 25 km/h, the Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus is a better choice, as it is specifically approved for speeds up to 50 km/h. If you are also looking for more comfort on long rides, take a look at the Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour E-50.
SmartGuard puncture-resistant layer
Beneath the tread lies the thick SmartGuard layer, which blocks sharp objects such as glass, gravel and glass shards before they can reach the inner tube. It is a very effective technology that makes getting stranded with a flat tyre highly unlikely.
ADDIX rubber compound
The rubber in this tyre is formulated for maximum wear resistance, ensuring the tyre lasts a long time even with frequent and intensive use.
Compatible with:
- City bikes, trekking bikes and e-bikes (up to 25 km/h)
Not compatible with:
- Speed pedelecs or e-bikes travelling faster than 25 km/h – for these, choose the Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus (up to 50 km/h).
- Tubeless set-ups (i.e. without inner tubes) – this is a clincher tyre for use with an inner tube, not a tubeless tyre.
Not sure? Here’s how to check:
Look on the sidewall of your current tyre for the size, for example 37-622. Compare the first number (the tyre width) and the last number (ETRTO/rim size) with the table below to find the correct size.
| Size (ETRTO) | Size (inches) | Weight | Max. pressure | Min. pressure | Designed for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28-622 | 28x1.10 | 750 g | 7.5 bar / 110 psi | 5.5 bar / 80 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 32-622 | 28x1.25 | 810 g | 6.5 bar / 95 psi | 4.5 bar / 65 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 37-622 | 28x1.40 | 900 g | 6 bar / 85 psi | 4 bar / 55 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 40-622 | 28x1.50 | 960 g | 6 bar / 85 psi | 3.5 bar / 50 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 40–635 | 28x1 1/2 | 1,010 g | 6 bar / 85 psi | 3.5 bar / 50 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 42-590 | 26 inches | 940 g | 6 bar / 85 psi | 3.5 bar / 50 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |
| 47–622 | 28x1.75 | 1,100 g | 5 bar / 70 psi | 3 bar / 45 psi | E-bike up to 25 km/h |

- 1x Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyre in the size of your choice
- An inner tube in the correct size and with the correct valve type; see our Schwalbe DV17 and Schwalbe SV17 inner tubes;
- Tyre levers to remove your old tyre; see our tyre & wheel tools;
- A bike pump; see our range of bike pumps;
- A tyre repair kit for use en route, in the unlikely event that you do get a puncture; see the Simson repair kits.
- Check your tyre pressure regularly and ensure it remains within the minimum and maximum pressure range for your tyre size (see table under Compatibility above).
- Use a bike pump with a pressure gauge to ensure accurate inflation.
- Even with SmartGuard protection, a tyre repair kit is still a sensible addition for when you are out and about, for the rare occasion that you do get a puncture.
