Nano Flex has been Castelli’s flagship technology for many years, and with Nano Flex EVO, the brand is rolling out its biggest update ever. Castelli is working towards a PFAS-free product range, and this Evo version is the result: a polypropylene base fabric with Castelli’s own nanotechnology coating. The effect remains the same as with previous Nano Flex generations: You stay warm on chilly mornings and dry enough during light showers.
The Nano Flex Evo arm warmers are designed for the transitional season, when it is too cold for short sleeves yet too warm for a full-length thermal jacket. Put them on when you set off and tuck them into your back pocket as soon as the sun comes out.
A note on sizing: Several customers have mentioned that Castelli cycling apparel, including previous Nano Flex arm warmers, tends to run a bit small; if you’re unsure between two sizes, go for the larger one.

Castelli is phasing out PFAS from its entire product range and has redeveloped its Nano Flex technology to achieve this. The polypropylene base fabric is given a nanotechnology coating that causes water to bead up rather than soak in.

As the seam is flat rather than raised, there is no chafing under the sleeve. At the top, there is a silicone grip on both sides, which keeps the sleeve securely in place while cycling, even when you get warm and the fabric becomes damp.

- Wash the arm warmers on a low-temperature cycle and leave to air-dry; high temperatures in the tumble dryer will damage the water-repellent coating.
- Put them in a back pocket as soon as the temperature reaches 20°C; above that, they will soon be too hot.
How should I wash the Castelli Nano Flex Evo arm warmers?
Wash the arm warmers on a low-temperature cycle (30°C) and leave them to air-dry. Avoid the tumble dryer and radiators as high temperatures damage the water-repellent Nano Flex coating, making water less likely to bead off. If you notice that the fabric is getting soaked more than before, this is a sign that you need to re-waterproof the coating.
Do Castelli cycling clothes run small? Should I go a size larger for these arm warmers?
Several customers have mentioned that Castelli clothing, and previous Nano Flex arm warmers, tend to be rather tight. If you’re unsure between two sizes based on the size chart, choose the larger size to be on the safe side. These arm warmers have a tailored, close fit.
Are the Nano Flex Evo arm warmers waterproof?
No, they are water-repellent, not waterproof. Your arms will stay dry in a light rainshower or with some road spray, but will eventually get wet during prolonged heavy rainfall. In such conditions, a rain jacket is a better choice.
For which temperature range are these arm warmers most suitable?
The Nano Flex Evo arm warmers are designed for temperatures ranging from 8°C to 20°C. Below 8°C, it is best to wear a thicker thermal layer or a warm jacket with full-length sleeves - above 20°C, the arm warmers will soon be too warm and you’re better off putting them in your back pocket.
Why does the fabric no longer contain PFAS, and does that affect its performance?
