The Polar H1 has plastic electrodes on the rear of the strap which register your heart rate. The sensor enables you to ride in a group without experiencing interference from other heart rate sensors. The Polar H1 heart rate strap can be worn during water-based activities, but sea- and pool water can cause the strap to become highly conductive, shorting the electrodes and preventing the strap from measuring the ECG signal from your heart.
