Pros
The focus of the Genus II AE65-R wheelset by Ere Research is on maximum speed and stiffness.
Aerodynamic carbon spokes ensure lightness and stiffness with little drag.
As the rims have a 21 mm inner width, 26 to 32 mm tyre widths fit best.
The wheels were developed in collaboration with UCI teams and optimised down to the last details using wind tunnel results.
The industrial bearings and the 36-tooth ratchet freehub system ensure durability as well as fast engagement.
The Shimano Ultegra R8170 C50 wheels are lightweight, reliable and fast!
With a weight of 1562 grams, this wheelset is one of the more lightweight ones available.
Comfort is achieved by a wide, 21 mm tubeless rim. It's suitable for tyres with a width of 28 mm or more.
The wheels are also tubeless compatible. Riding tubeless with latex reduces the risk of punctures.
Unparalleled handling in terms of steering, and the sensitivity to wind is very low. The wheels feel like one with the bike.
Carbon wheelset with a 50 mm rim height and an impressively low weight of 1300 grams!
With a 31 mm outer rim width and a 23 mm inner rim width, these wheels are perfect to fit today's wide tyres.
This all-round wheelset performs well in the mountains but is also very efficient at high speeds thanks to extensive testing at the Silverstone Engineering Hub.
The carbon spokes further reduce weight and optimise power transfer.
The hubs are machined to 0.02 mm tolerances, ensuring that the ceramic bearings have less resistance and last longer.
Thanks to technology from Scope's Artech series, the rim shape has been optimised, resulting in a more aerodynamic wheel.
Despite the 65 mm rim height, the wheelset weighs only 1497 grams.
With a 25 mm inner rim width, the wheels can accommodate road tyres as well as narrower gravel tyres.
Improved seals ensure improved bearing life inside the hubs.
Scope wheels are developed in the Netherlands in collaboration with Schwalbe, SKF and the Tech Universities at Eindhoven and Delft; so their high quality is guaranteed.
Cons
With a 65 mm rim height, the wheels score very well on aerodynamics but are less wind-resistant.
Carbon spokes are more sensitive to impacts but the wheels come with six spare spokes for easy replacement.
Disc brake rotors are not included.
The Dura Ace 9170 C50 wheels take another 100 grams off the wheels, for the real weightweenies. It's bearing quality is also one more step better.
Carbon spokes are slightly more fragile in case of an impact but the set includes four spare spokes!
The wheelset does not come with wheel bags or disc brake rotors.
These wheels will be affected by wind more than models with lower rims.
