Detailed product description

What makes this set popular? Let’s start with the rim. The Firecrest aero profile is designed to reduce drag on the front and rear of the wheels. This distinguishes Zipp from their rivals. Zipp use a wider and less pointy rim. Firecrest rims are not only more aerodynamic but also stiffer and more comfortable. More comfortable because the tyre bulges better, which also improves stability in the corners. An aerodynamic rim that makes you go faster.

Another new feature is the the 77/177D hub. These hubs have end caps that can be taken off manually to mount the new standard 12x100 in front or perhaps even a 15x100 fit. For the fit in the rear wheel you can perhaps use a 12x135 or a 12x142. These hubs are cheaper, lighter, and perhaps most importantly: wider compatible than the old 88/188D. From now on you can choose: thru axle or quick release.

A stiff hub and rim don’t result in a stiff wheelset. That’s why Zipp applies the ‘Virtual 3 Cross’ spoke pattern. A 2 cross wheel with the stiffness of 3 cross wheel. This pattern is applied in both the front and rear wheels of the Disc edition on both sides.

ABLC technology
Zipp ABLC technology maximises the advantages of Zipp’s patented Firecrest rim profile. The ABLC rim profile with nodes that make little air swirls that guide the air inside the wheel, so the air goes straight along the rim, which reduces drag.
