Description

Description

This Sram XG-1290 is the latest innovation in cassettes. This cassette is not only 12 speed, but also the first road cassette with a '10' as smallest tooth. Thanks to this small tooth, this Sram cassette is very lightweight while remaining very versatile.

Road bikes are becoming increasingly versatile. There's even bicycles that seem like road bikes, but don't really fit the same category. In addition to traditional road bikes, cyclocross bikes and gravel bikes are becoming increasingly common. For these bikes, you really want to have the largest possible cassette ratio and crank ratio, so you have the right gear ratio for every occasion. That's why Sram completely reinvented the traditional ratios of cassettes and redesigned them from the ground up.

We've summarised the possibilities in a graphic. This graphic also shows you that the ratios are completely different from what you are used to.
A Sram 12-speed cassette has way more options, while the weight is much lower. You can be assured you'll always have the gear ratio you need.

Note:
For mounting a Sram Red AXS 12-speed cassette, you'll need an XDR freehub. You can find these freehubs here.

Lightweight, quality and monocassette

- SANTIAGO 31 August 2021

The truth is that there is a big difference in weight and it is very comfortable that it comes assembled in one piece. It is much easier to change it. The drivetrain is very smooth (I have a Rival Etap AXS 12V with 48/35 chainrings and 10-33 cassette, the last sprocket is probably rarely used.

Pros & Cons

Excellent quality
Monocasette

Pricey top quality

SRAM Force etap AXS has everything I want. Reliable, customisable, just about affordable, and performant. Only that cassette. It is too noisy. I always thought the Red version was too expensive. A big Mantel discount made me change my mind. And look, finally a low-noise drive. Conclusion: expensive but great toy.
