Description

Description

The Shimano MT701 is a versatile cycling shoe that comes into its own during mountain biking and trekking tours. The upper side is made with a combination of mesh and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Thanks to these materials, the cycling shoe has a comfortable fit, good ventilation and a long service life. The BOA® L6 closing system ensures that the fit can be set quickly and very accurately, possibly also while cycling.

The rubber outer sole and midsole of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) ensure both good pedalling efficiency and good walking comfort. This makes this cycling shoe perfect for use both on and off the bike. However, for the avid mountain biker the rubber sole will not be stiff enough since this type of sole does not result in an optimal power transfer to the pedals. A loop is attached at the rear to make putting on and taking off easier. In short, are you looking for a versatile, everyday cycling shoe? Then the Shimano MT701 is a perfect choice for you.

User tips

Detailed explanation of sizing in mm
In order to help you, as best we can, to choose the right size shoe we have measured all the shoes ourselves. All that's left for you to do is measure your own foot length, and we'll tell you which shoe size per brand suits you best. Does your foot length in mm not appear on the relevant product's page? Then that particular shoe is not available in a size that suits your foot length.

You can easily measure your foot length using an A4 sheet of paper, placed on the floor against a wall. Stand with one foot on the piece of paper, with your heel against the wall. Draw a line above your big toe (or above the index toe if that is longer). Now mark your other foot on the paper in the same way. Measure both - the measurement of your longest foot is your foot length in mm's! Please note: some manufacturers have their own measuring system, and as a result what appears on the shoebox can deviate from what we have measured.

What shoe size you need can differ per brand. This is because certain brands wear larger or smaller. To help you get the perfect fit, we've also classified the shoes as narrow, average, or wide fit. Read all about it in our blog!

Very versatile cycling shoes which look good on or off the bike

- Farid 15 October 2019

I use this shoe for touring and in city use. Look and feel like good quality expensive trainers, so they don't look odd when leaving the bike and going on foot. The have flexible uppers and good lining, so feel very comfortable. Yet they have enough sole stiffness for adequate power transmission. All the comfort comes at a price I guess, I have to tighten them during the ride, as the shoes flex and compress. The Boa system is great for quick on/off and quick adjustments. Shimanos typically run small, so Mantells additional sizing measurements are very useful and spot on, helped get perfect fit first time. I bought Size 48 and have average to wide feet and these shoes have enough room around the toes. Definitely would recommend them.

Pros & Cons

Boa system is great for quick on and off
Flexible enough to walk
Looks good enough for in town casual use
Ventilates well. Good for purpose.
Very comfy interior. Mantell sizing is spot on.
Cant tighten and get snug fit using Boa first time
