Last for years, top for novice clickers. You can start by setting them looser so you click out very easily, once you get used to them you can set them tighter. Comes with plates so you just need to buy the right shoes to go with them

I had zero experience with click pedals. For a long time I doubted if I wanted it on my MTB. I expected to have to get very used to it but nothing could be further from the truth. Snap on and off is very simple. Pedals are 'double sided' so you can't go wrong. While cycling I really notice a better transfer of power. Absolutely no regrets!

The Standard. You see them everywhere and for good reason. SPD is a good system and these are the most economical pedals you can find for it. Technically nothing to note other than the fact that a plastic ring is used to enclose the bearing package. This needs attention during (de)assembly. It's easy to slip with your pedal wrench and damage this plastic ring, allowing debris to get into your bearings. Once the ring is damaged, disassembly becomes even more difficult. Also, this ring requires a special adapter, which is not/badly available.

Clicks in easily on both sides. Assembly takes no time at all. Just a bit on the heavy side.

Another brand didn't work with my winter shoes so back to Shimano, previous bike had the same ones and lasted over 20 years.

My old pedals were stuck in the crancks of the Shimano pedal set on my Trek road bike that I was replacing. Will get those off some time later, with someone who has a vise. So besides a new bottom bracket, new casette and new chain, I also suddenly needed new padals. Fortunately ordered quickly at Mantel. Very nice pedals, Shimano SPD>

A Shimano pedal, what to say about it. Basic solid and proven many times. For the price a super pedal for beginners or the second wheel. Competition-oriented drivers should perhaps drive a lighter version. The SPD system works actually always, whether snow or mud. The double-sided entry makes it particularly easy to start.

I bought a set of these pedals for my road bike because I want to use the same shoe on both my MTB and road bike. These pedals do what they are supposed to do, clicking in and out goes smoothly, and the pedals are simple to adjust. Price/quality is excellent and the service from mantel is free on top of that.

I use, as an avid mountain biker, on the road bike. For the dark winter nights, I use the road bike in combination with a Tacx, sometimes for blow-out rides. This allows you to use vsn existing shoes with a standard pedal. Pedal is basically good, the XT version has a better performance regarding quick engagement and disengagement.
