Top in the rough dry course and reasonable in the wet.

- Per, 6 November, 2022

Have this tire in the 29x2.3 protection version on my front wheel with a rim that is 30mm wide internally. Used it for the first time during tough Bart Brentjens Challenge, and the tire immediately gave me a lot of confidence. The clever thing is that the tire rolls well smoothly over obstacles (roots, large boulders) but still gives sufficient lateral stability in gentle cornering. The tire does not deform. Continental has really found the golden mean here and combined with the low weight and acceptable rolling resistance makes this the tire I would choose if I could only choose one. At the back you can mount something lighter such as a raceking (if you ever visit Limburg, choose the protection version). One minus point is the grip now that it gets wetter. Still good and comparable to a Maxxis Rekon, for example. But it excels mainly in the dry and then it does not matter how rough the terrain is.

Pros & Cons

Lighter than specified
Supple yet strong
Very good grip on dry and decent on wet
Mud sticks a bit
Was a bit difficult to get airtight the first time

a tyre for all seasons(almost)

- Stephen, 14 June, 2020

I have been running xkings on my hardtail for a couple of years now and they have been the best all round choice by a good margin. They have proved far more robust than other German brands without too much drag whilst giving grip in wet conditions (British summer for example). I am tempted to put a race king on the rear for better speed but i know I would miss the grip that the xkings provide. A excellent all round tyre.

Pros & Cons

durable
good grip
robust
pricey
slower than race kings

Excellent Tyre

- Keith, 23 July, 2019

I’ve had a few problems with tyres over the past year and these were recommended. Clearly for good reason as they are fast rolling and grippy with good puncture protection (so far!)

Pros & Cons

Fast rolling
Good puncture protection
Grippy
None so far

Half good.

- Jurijs, 2 May, 2019

I always go with conti tyres for my bikes. This time unfortunatelly one of the two I bought was faulty. While spinning it swayed left-right, although wheel was true.

Great and typical continental performance!

- Tom, 5 April, 2019

I chose this tyre as I was converting to tubeless and wanted a tyre with the best protection against punctures. It took me a while to seat the tyre on to the rim (it’s my first tubeless experience) but the feel of the tyres is thick so I trust the Protection version will do its job. Directional rotation and up to 58psi makes this tyre great for rolling resistance. I used the tyre for a mixture of trail, gravel and light mud and the tyre performs excellent for my style of riding. Price was reasonably good compared to competitors as well.

Pros & Cons

Great all rounder tyre
Sidewall branding looks good
Sticky black chilli rubber compound
Tubeless ready
Slightly expensive but is premium brand
Thick rubber can make tubeless setup tricky

- Darren, 23 January, 2019

Pros & Cons

4 / 5

Great, relatively lightweight tire.

- Mick, 7 January, 2019

Love it overall. Had a bit trouble seating one of the tires, but got some help from my local biek shop.
